Hello friends,

In today’s session I’ll be breaking down two useful phrases that can be combined to form an impressive flatpicking run over a Cmaj chord. We’ll get started reviewing our source scales before adding these classic licks to your repertoire. Let’s get started!

Quick tips for learning and retaining challenging techniques:

1) Take your time - Speed and accuracy is obtained by playing a snails pace.

2) Break things up - It's very important to divide a longer lick up into small digestible parts.

3) Be meticulous - In the early going, it's important to focus on clean repetitions. Every mistake is a step in the wrong direction, so be sure to "measure twice and cut once" as they say.

4) Be patient - Mastering a technique and committing it to muscle memory takes time. Once you can perform a technique at a slow pace, buckle down and rehearse for at least a half hour.

5) Enjoy the process - Fully mastering a challenging technique can be slow and tedious, so I recommend that you focus on the small improvements as you go. The development of muscle memory, and the fantastic connection between your brain and your hands is truly a fascinating thing to behold.

Hey, Rob. This is a really fun lick and not too complicated for my brain. It has a great sound and that connection of the two positions of the C scale really add to all the theory that you share. So off to practice this new one. Thanks.

Rob - your lessons continue to get better and better. They are outstanding. You are making a big difference in my playing. Thanks for your thoroughness and attention to detail, which frankly is very hard to find from other teachers on the internet! I'm just getting into bluegrass and would love to see a lesson on Road to Columbus by Kenny Baker. A classic! https://youtu.be/thPekf1RR2Y

So excited for these bluegrass licks. I didn't even think I liked bluegrass until about a year ago when I started listening to bluegrass guitar players and now I'm hooked. I echo Danny's comment.... I have learned SO much from you and can't Thank you enough!

It took me a long time to get into bluegrass as well. I think it's safe to say that bluegrass pickers are some of the best in the world, and these licks are ton of fun to play. I'll keep digging into this stuff for sure!
