Hello friends,

and welcome to another by request song tutorial! In today's session I'll be breaking down a fairly easy fingerstyle tune in Simon and Garfunkel's 1967 classic "59th Street Bridge Song" (Feelin' Groovy.) This is a fantastic song for beginner finger-pickers to learn because it features one simple chord progression and a basic "Travis" technique throughout it's entirety. Remember to practice each section with slow, patient repetition. The goal is to fully commit the tune to muscle memory before adding your vocal overtop. Let's get started!

This is great, Rob. I'm still plugging away at Morning has Broken because I've yet to get a finger style song down, but putting out these awesome lessons is really helping. Would you suggest working on those 2 songs simultaneously? I'm not sure if it would help or confuse me, but I know I want to add both to the repertoire. Thank you for your dedication and the best guitar lessons ever.

A terrific song, Rob, and a very cool lesson. I love the counting aspects because it challenges the picking in a new way. It's great to get beyond straight argeggios with the picking and into songs that are more rhythmic. You're lessons are top notch and I echo Pam's gratitude above.

Excited! Even though is hard, I love fingerstyle guitar and this is a good song for it.... will practice until I get it right. Thank you for the great lesson Rob.⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Hey Dawn, thanks so much, glad you're also excited for this tutorial. Sorry it took so long, my cold turned into the flu and I was down for the count for several days. Anyway, have fun with your practice and keep counting, it makes a big difference.

Hey Pam, thanks, glad you're enjoying this lesson. In terms of practice two songs at once, that would depend on your practice time. If you haven't gotten a finger style song down yet, you might want to start with an easy one like this for building fundamentals, and developing the physical aspects like dexterity on your right hand. Have fun! -Rob

Thanks Rob, great tune!....having trouble keeping up to all the wonderful songs you're providing, but keep them coming! Quick question, any chance you could do a bit on playing and singing. I am having some difficulty putting the two together. If you have any tips on combining the guitar work and vocals it would be appreciated. Thanks!

Hey Tony, thanks so much, if there’s too much to keep up with, then I’m doing my job. I have a lesson on singing and playing on YouTube. I’ll find you the link.

Hey Rob, I really like this lesson! I just starting with fingerpicking and this song seems to be perfect. Do you have any suggestion what song could be the next fingerpicking song after this one? I thought of "Falling Slowly" from Glen Hensard. What do you think? Thanks and regards, Steven

Hay, Great Tune - would like to know what equipment and settings that you are using for the vocal audio - would like to be able to duplicate that sound, thanks

Hey James, that's a Cascade fathead II microphone going into a Presonus firestudio 2626. I use Logic Pro as a DAW and usually add reverb and compression via CLA plugins.

Hi Rob, I've just started to learn how to play this beautiful song, although Paul Simon doesn't like it anymore according to an interview, too naive he said
