Technical Post - Side Characters (Patreon)

Hey everyone, it's me again! I hope you've been enjoying the PBH posts! This month I actually did a soft poll in the Discord server's Patreon channel for the topic - if you're feeling sociable, join us there! I occasionally drop WIPs and share silly stories as well.

In a blink and you'll miss it moment in the trailer, you may have noticed a couple of unnamed characters!

While kobuta did the character artwork for the main characters, the side cast was designed by us! minute designed the two cutes on the left, I designed the one on the right and Moekki (one of the artists on HB:NE) helped with one last character! I then finalized all the assets to try and make it fit Kobu's style the best I can. While I hope to make more characters to populate Fantasy Wellington, these four are definitely some of the most significant in Miho's life.

Gwen and Tommy

Designed by minute! Gwen is a mom doin' her best to give her young son Tommy good memories through his childhood, but with not enough sleep and Tommy's penchant into getting into magical mishaps, it's really not that easy...

When Miho stumbles on the overexcitable, energetic boy, Gwen is more than happy to watch as Miho entertains Tommy (or is it the other way around…) in a place she can see them.

Lena

Aspen's coworker at the Bellhouse, part-swan and extremely competitive - Lena has the potential to become a close friend to Miho. Unwanting to be tied down to her family legacy of ballet, ballet and more ballet, Lena's taking a break to enjoy her youth and try out anything she can think of.

Originally she was just 'tennis girl' in the outline, and her one purpose was to be a tennis friend... but what can I say! She wanted to be more developed, and she's grown a character we all love now.

Our resident pink girl! The tufts around her ears are feathers, inspired by the headpieces ballerinas wear when playing Odette in Swan Lake. (but, like, also inspired by Princess Tutu.)

She will not be romanceable in the game! We hope you like her and her potential friendship with Miho regardless!

Mister Kim

Last but not least… Mister Kim! I couldn't finish his sprite in time for the trailer. Mister Kim is a man with a passion for fishing!!! He runs a fishing shop down by the waterfront, and a few times a week he runs fishing experience trials, something mostly taken up by visitors and families with young children. A jovial man who is always friendly, Miho can learn fishing and maybe even a little bit about Korean culture from him…!

He's pretty much 95% based on this one Korean ahjussi sock seller at a Sunday market that I met in high school. Very friendly man! Thank you for the Sunday market tips, man I never learned the name of…

Miho (Technically Not a Side Character But I Thought I'd Share Anyway)

We all know Miho… but she's actually a shapeshifter, too! If anything, her human form isn't her real form. As a gumiho, she has nine-tails (gu means nine, mi is tail, ho is fox!) and her signature bead necklace. I tried my best to make it still look like her in the fox form!

Also a minrose work - minute helped me do the initial base sketch for fox-miho!

Bat (name pending, but something dramatic like Orpheus)

One of Juliet's bat friends in her bat spy network. Did you know that bats are the only native land mammals New Zealand has? I didn't!

And more…?

A constant work in progress, I plan to add characters as I see necessary. Here are a couple ideas… when you see them in game, they might be totally different from what you see here!

I hope this has been a little bit informative and a fun read for you all! I tried not to go too in-depth for their backstories, so you can meet them in game.
