I say this every time, but it's refreshing to have reactors that pay attention and remember the details of this show. It's so long and has a lot of moving parts, so it's not entirely unreasonable for someone to forget things every now and again. But it's also nice not feeling like you have to remind someone of stuff almost every discussion like with most reactors. It really shows you guys enjoy the series and understand it, which is what I happily pay for without issue.

God DAMN Heat. Every time I’ve seen your craziest feats of critical analysis and media literacy you come out the pocket with some seriously galaxy brained 3000 IQ shit without fail. It is incredibly impressive my guy. Got a mfer over here with his jaw on the floor like Tex Avery fr fr lmao I was a little trepidatious about the Kiku reveal, as this topic is still very sensitive and a lot of reactors don’t take it very well. But I should have known after seeing your response to Vinland saga s2 that it would be fine. You’re right on the money Heat. There are a lot of different cultures and walks of life represented in one piece, from all races to okama/crossdressers and so on and so forth. But Kiku is to my knowledge the first time a character is explicitly stated to be trans. She says it herself, “I’m a woman at heart,” and this woman has immaculate fucking hands This is a theme addressed several times in Wano. Hus is kind of right about the sexism and traditional values stuff, but also kind of not. Feudal Japan, as many ancient countries, found men and women interchangeable in a lot of ways, and not at all in others. It has always been a country of patriarchal clans, but men portrayed women in traditional theatre often, complete with makeup and dresses and all. This is partly why the whole crossdressing/okama scene has become so entrenched in Japanese culture, even today, with many bars being run by okama mama-sans. But it is still very difficult and not widely accepted for more traditionally homosexual people to be forthright with their identities at large Wano seems, at times, to attempt to shine a somewhat harsh light on these customs and more with societal metacommentary which challenges the viewer’s cultural preconceptions and emotional intelligence. It’s an interesting tack, although one that can be hard for people to process. So I was glad to see you seemed to have little to no trouble grasping the Kiku stuff at all, Heat
