AOT going down as one of the goat animes. Personally I think it's the best ever in terms of voice acting. Its also up there in terms of OSTs. The Animation quality was always great whether it was with WIT or Mappa. Combine all that with one of the best stories and you have peak fiction. Critiques can be made ofc since it's not perfect, but it's still one of the best to ever do it

I'm actually curious on people reason on why they didn't like the ending. I thought the ending was fine and fit the whole narrative of the whole story which was no matter what, humanity will always tell stories to benefit their people which will always lead to war. History always repeats itself

Another change from the manga is in the anime he basically says we'll see eachother in hell and in the manga Armin says "Thanks for becoming a mass murderer for our sakes" manga readers definitely got that changed due to how much they hated that line

Just felt like too much wavering and not enough conviction led to a tragic unsatisfactory ending for me personal I wanted him to either go all out and be villains or be a hero not this mix of both cause it’s just to contradictory. This ending especially made me feel bad for Levi cause as he said this wasn’t what his comrades died for this wasn’t the dream. And no I don’t think just cause bad things happen in real life it needs to be an ending that contradicts so many themes already established and still Try to paint Eren as the hero it’s either a lesson one or the other not in the middle like aot left me feeling

From the time lapse it does imply there was peace for awhile, but ultimately after thousands of years humanity showed its ass once again. I can't speak for the anime onlys because imo the anime fixed every problem and actually made it into a 10/10 but I can give some insight for manga readers. For starters Eren and Armins dialogue in the manga was way worse. Eren tells Armin about the 80% part at the very start of their dialogue so it just makes Armin look discusting when he only gets mad about the whole Mikasa thing and not the genocide. That whole going to hell together dialogue is completely anime original and wasn't in the manga so it just leaves a horrible taste in the viewers mouth about Armin. He literally says verbatim "Thank you for becoming a mass murderer for our sakes". The anime really fixed that whole thing with how they did it honestly Armins character in general got so much better with the anime than the manga. A change that I really love the anime did is making no one side with Eren in the manga everyone is essentially glazing Eren for the genocide while in the anime you can tell their just grieving which is a really good change and keeps a lot of characters away from character assassination. Second up is how Ymir was handled. It's not done in a good digestible manner. Her character is tragic because In the end she was just a child forced into slavery and a life she never once made a decision in. She was desperately chasing anything positive in her life including love which was given such a skewed and moritifing meaning to her in life that she didn't even know was wrong. It hurt and tormented her for her entire existence but she was scared to lose it because that's all she's ever known. Mikasa finally giving her the answer she needed about her love is great because she was right it was nothing but a nightmare but she was just a child who was never given the change to know it wasn't. But the way how the manga does it is really weird and choppy so it kinda falls flat on its face and when the manga first released before Isayama added more the extra pages the dialogue with her and Mikasa wasn't even there so the her arc literally ended when Eren said "Only Ymir knows" which was just a really terrible way to do that. Those parts were the most hated by the manga readers other than paradi getting bombed at the end that was where most of the complaints were coming from. Imo something that really made me love the anime ending was that they stayed in Marley for 3 years to help rebuild. In the manga they pretty much immediately went back to paradi and left the world to rott. When they're on the boat in the manga they're actually heading to Marley for peace talks and not heading back to Paradi like in the anime. Just felt really shitty in the manga honestly. TLDR manga was given no time to flesh out dialogue and characters and just kinda left us manga readers with no real satisfaction just left us feeling like "that's it?"

For the Armin thanking him thing, I took it as deep down he knew that most likely he would've had to commit mass murder himself (which he has done before in Marley) if Eren stayed with them and didn't do his plan. Like we knew Marley and the other countries was going to go to Paradis either way. Eren being over there and forcing Eldians to save him just sped up the process. Sure its hard to say what would be the outcome if Eren didn't do his plan but since Armin already got a small glimpse of mass murder (when he blew up the bay area in Marley) he probably was thankful he didn't have to do it himself again but even bigger. Yes its a better change in the anime but I still think Armin would've been down to commit mass murder. Like he was down for Eren to get small part of the rumbling to kill the Allied Forces.
