So the Archer in this timeline is not the Shirou from UBW. Each archer is a potential alternate future Shirou. But yeah, all the Archer’s have a romantic relationship with Saber/Tohsaka/Sakura. So it explains why this Archer had an emotional relationship with Rin right when he was about to die.

I wouldn’t say this archer has a romance with Sakura/tohsaka he just feels protective. Pretty sure nasu said archers background is very similar to the shirou in the saber route in the game

I think the bigger issue is promising 1 thing and not delivering it. Then again a day late isn't bad tbh. I think you could go a long way with simply announcing if smths late and so. Would save from a lot of headaches

the reason why Archer doesnt seem like an "asshole" is because Emiya isnt following the same route as Archer did. Instead of wishing to save everyone, Shirou just wants to save his closest ppl. Archer doesnt see anything wrong with that. Past Shiro's (or other routes) always tried to save EVERYONE. In this route, Shirou had given up that dream in hopes of saving Sakura

I feel weird about the whole "routes" thing because on one hand...they are fire and work well as separate entities. But at the same time, we never gonna have a "perfect" canon route. While this is also my favorite route due to just how much lore and brutality it has, the 2nd route most definitely revolves more around Shirou. And the first route is more about Saber, who feels like a secondary character in all these routes despite being the first main heroine and is like the poster girl for fate in general. So all of them bring something great to the table. Obviously the first route wasnt as popular for the animation not being near ufotable's level. Personally the story wasn't as engaging either but I still enjoyed it. But the 2nd movie is most balanced for me. A bit of everything and gives more characterization to shirou and archer's relationship.
