yeah fate/zero was written by urobuchi and that mfer loves his philosophical inquiries more than writing actual characters sometimes, hence why stay night is superior!!

Yo, I have my issues with animes that get THIS deep, but still remain vague at the same time (at least on first watch), BUT this is one of the best anime y'all have watched! I love how it all comes together in the end, and the ending is up there on Code Geass levels of greatness too. I hope y'all finish Castlevania soon, because s4 was a different level of Goat'd. Another amazing (semi)ending. Anyways, the reactions to this have been SLOW, but always a treat. Dope af 👍

The problem with Fate/Zero is how pretentiously preachy it can get with its philosophies (Ex; Rider vs Saber at the King Talk and Kiritsugu at the end...along with some of the nonsense Kirei be spitting) but for the most part, it's definitely at minimum an 8/10 anime, at most 9.3/10. Though I agree it has a satisfactory ending, let's not lie to ourselves here...CODE GEASS level?! Don't forget that Zero's ending is carried by the fact that it's a prequel with 2 animes and 3 movies to give fans more.

I agree it’s not code geass level, it’s better than it. Code geass has some of the biggest ass pulls and plot inconsistencies I have ever seen in anime, it’s such an overrated anime. You said the fate/zero is being carried by being associated with fate, well the same can be said for code geass which got carried by being always compared to death note which was SUPER successful

Taku Bell

Mate, you’re comparing the anime as a whole, the OP and I are just talking about the ending. Like you say, Code Geass is a mess of an anime - S1 was ok, S2 excluding the last six (if I remember correctly) episodes was subpar - and I’m inclined to agree that Fate/Zero is a better overall anime. But there are two things that people enjoy from Code Geass so much that people - in your own words - tend to “overrate” the anime, the MC and the ending. Lelouch as a character is what kept the anime afloat but the ending of the anime is what gave it’s goated status; definitely not Death Note comparisons. Death Note and Code Geass are vastly different anime on so many scales; the only thing people compared were the MCs because of their immense intelligence and villain act, and they made those comparisons to pit them against each other, not to bring the other up. You know how anime fans are. Comparing Code Geass’ ending which saved the anime to Fate/Zero’s ending which sets up another anime is laughable at best. I would compare and contrast the two endings to showcase what I mean but you know…that would involve spoilers. Sure, you can make a case for Code Geass being overrated but I don’t think it is. Code Geass is rated the way it is because of it’s MC and ending not because of its overall content so I can’t say it's overrated if that’s the criteria. The MC and ending are that good.

No way in hell is Fate Zero ending better than code Geass, you out your damn mind 💀

To respond to Taku Bell, I get you, but I fear you misinterpreted my meaning. For me, CG is my favorite anime of all-time. The ending can't be topped, IMO. Lelouch is HIM. Period. But what I mean here is, Kiritsugu grows on you heavily down to stretch (starting with killing Archibald). The slow reveal of his true intentions, and the insanity that ensues up until the very end, are very comparable to CG's ending. The "level" of hype, shock, and awe that come from both endings is what I was comparing. CG has a 10/10 ending. So does Fate/Zero, imo. Here's my hot take, don't be mad: The end saves this anime from being a bad fever dream from a writer 1000x more talented than the people who wrote the rest of the series. It isn't a true prelude, as everything after it was already set in stone, with nothing being adapted to directly pick up where it left off. UBW is close enough, but every "callback" was written into Fate/Zero after the fact. I don't say this to knock F/0. It actually makes this anime even better, because it was an impressive feat to accomplish. The end ties it into the future season seamlessly and makes you wanna know more about THIS specific world. Sadly, UBW does not do that.
