Update #27 - Metro Last Light DLC and Ongoing Projects (Patreon)
Content
Afternoon!
The Overlord video will be out this coming week like I suspected. As I mentioned in the last post I've stopped doing stuff with Elite for now since I'm trying to get that one out as soon as possible. However, there are still some long term things going on that I think it's time for you all to know about. I never expected to be hitting the maximum Patreon goal in the first week, and I have no intention of adding additional tiers or anything like that. At the same time, I've been making a few hundred dollars past that for a while so rather than stuff all of it away or make bad decisions at bars, I'm instead using it to fund "bits" for future videos. There are only a select few of these ongoing since I'm wanting the talent to be properly paid, and I'm also not having so many made that it's going to be completely altering how the videos go. As I stated in the beginning, I'm avoiding any dramatic format shift, so these will be for rare, but high quality little jokes or visuals. The gif attached to this is still very rough comparatively to what the final version will look like since it's a part of a larger sequence and only an animatic, but I figured that'd be something neat to show for the time being.
As for the Metro segment, that video is out now on Raycevick's channel. It was a blast to work on, but the biggest shock by far was finding out that Metro 2033, and most likely the entire 4A engine, was being prototyped in X-Ray engine like many people (and GSC World themselves) had suspected. Had they found out the 2033 demo was running entirely in X-Ray, it's possible the Metro series might not have happened at all, or turned out very differently. It was incredible to see just how blatant it was with how many leftover assets and reference files to Stalker there were. Clearly they never thought anyone outside of development would be looking it over. Having a collaboration invite going from "want to talk about Metro a bit?" to digging through design documents and other old files floating around was a jump I didn't expect, which is why I decided to do work on the project so suddenly. It was downright fascinating to see, and Ray's video goes over the nastier parts of development in great detail. Before last month, all I knew about 4A was that it had ex-GSC developers and that they were working in freezing temperatures to finish Last Light.
As for doing standalone Metro videos on my end, I do have my heart set on comparing the 2033 base game and redux at some point, but I don't think that'll be for a long time. The current plan is to get the Overlord video out, then Space Rangers, then some of the other highly requested games while getting Elite Dangerous done in the background at a regular pace. February was a balancing act of the guide video, Metro LL, Elite, and Overlord so I'll be glad to only have most of my effort focused on two games instead of juggling.
Thanks for all your support! Giveaway winners will be contacted sometime Tuesday afternoon EST.
