Continuing the Zootopia theme with a one of my more recent uploads we have Nick in the ring, nicking the win for a spot on the force.

This is how a lot of my ideas start out just to make sure its an appealing idea and to ensure that I have the best view of the action before I fully commit. It gives me a chance to think about things like if the horn should be stuck in the floor or what to do about Nicks gloves having realised that he would have to take them off to get his claws involved.

Those with a keen eye may have spotted that Nick was originally going to be reaching for the Rhinos under arm but once I had properly placed him I quickly found that he simply wasn't big enough to reach both locations which is why I put more detail here then necessary! Ended up with a bit of side tickling instead though.

Used traditional sketches once more to plot things out and again, being a line-less piece meant that I had to build things up in layers and textures to get a look to match the show. Gives that clipping look when you can see all the teeth exposed!
I dont create things in the order shown as its more convenient to work with what is in front first. So for the head it would be the nose and the horns as they will dictate what details can be seen underneath and its here that I realised the Rhino from the movie had a much shorter horn then expected so no floor piercing in the end!

And here is a very simplified look at Nicks development. Given that one of the key features of the movie and its spin off's are the detailed fur, I put a little extra time into making it more hi-res which can be seen below.

Being late to such a big franchise, you expect all the best ideas to be taken already so when a new one pops into you head its worth investing some time into, even if it turns out to be a much bigger project then usual.

.......okay..... if ANYONE ever tells you something like: "drawing is soooo easy! I don't get why you take soooo long" again, show them this! This looks super complex.

I can sink many hours into a single piece and I'm sure most people will understand that these things take time. But I also understand that what matters most is the end result. The idea has to be worth the hours right from the start otherwise people will forget about it in 10 mins!
