Back from my break to travel to Birmingham and enjoy Confuzzled!

Before I jumped on the plane, I have officially released Pawperty Damage, so let's talk about that!

Pawperty Damage Release

On May 24th, the game was finally released! I published it close to midnight, which was a reminder to many people that timezones exist, haha.

Leading up to the release I ran into a number of surprise crashes, with the game, which led me to panic quite a bunch—it turned out that Unity's DirectX 12 support is not the most stable, so I switched the game's graphics API to DirectX 11 which... is quite a substantial change to make, 3 days until release, heh. Luckily, however, things worked out great and the game released in a very stable state!

Pawperty Damage in September, 2020: Indistinguishable from the finished product!

At the top of the post you can find a nostalgic supercut of many of the video updates I have posted, over the past ~2.5 years, to illustrate the game's development. It has come a long way and I am very proud of the result!

Release... Controversy?

The game released to a wave of positive feedback and lots of love from the furry community, which absolutely means a lot to me!

Very quickly the announcement tweet left the furry spheres of Twitter, however, and was picked up by a bunch of terminally boring people—I was literally on the plane to Birmingham, when I decided I had read the sentence "this is a fetish game" enough many times and muted the tweet, to keep my notifications clear.

A day or two later, while I was having a good time at the convention, more and more people started reaching out to me, to let me know that they love the game and are sorry about what was happening to me on Twitter... Which was lovely, but also I wasn't entirely sure what they were talking about, at first—but I quickly caught on, of course, and found out that the "controversy" and drama surrounding the game had escalated quite a bit since the last time I had looked at the tweets.

Nothing says "concern trolling for clout" quite like exposing literally millions of people to the thing that you say is bad.

At least two quote tweets that were calling out the game had gone viral and directed a lot of haters my way. But as they say, "all publicity is good publicity," I guess: All the angry quote tweeting has propelled the original announcement tweet to over 5 millions views.

The whole thing was irritating, to say the least, but being at the convention—surrounded by friends—has helped me a lot to get my mind off all of this, and focus on the good!

Confuzzled 2023

As mentioned, I attended Confuzzled: It was my first time at that con, after 4 years!

Cfz was the first furry con I had ever attended, back in 2019. While there, I went to my first macro/micro meet, too: It was this experience, actually, that inspired Pawperty Damage!

So being able to bring the game to this year's macro/micro meet at CFz was a very special personal achievement:

Hamburg Games Funding

As a bit of a heads up: I will try to apply for funding from the city of Hamburg, for a future project. The deadline for applications is June 20th, so I have to hurry a bit...

For this, I will come up with a new game project, as Pawperty Damage is not eligible, I'm afraid. Getting funding like this would be an important step, for my gig as a self-employed game developer.

But even if I do get rewarded the funding, do not worry: I will not stop working on Pawperty Damage, immediately! Work on the new project wouldn't officially start until September, anyway, and even then I can still work on my personal projects, on the side—much like I did before when I still had a regular day job.

Thank You!

As always, thank you so much for your support!

The next two weeks I will have to focus on preparing an application for the funding program, but after that I will do my best to get started on the mod support topics for Pawperty Damage: Custom character skins, for starters, and custom character models, afterwards!

Happy to do so, I'm glad it worked well! The con was super lovely, thanks for being there! Also, huge congrats on your game release! Releasing it just in time for ConFuzzled seems really nice. Here's to whatever your next project will be!
