I can't believe this season is over, those 10 weeks went by so fast!

I feel so bad. I totally spoiled this story to my husband. I had recently watched the house of the dragon history and told tom I'm pretty sure the dance of dragons starts with aemond killing one of the queens boys. And 30 minutes later it happened.

Kayla

Corlys wasn't for Rhaenyra in their private conversation until Rhaenys vouched for her by saying that Rhaenyra was the person holding the realm together. And then he decided that he was even more for Rhaenyra when he saw Baela and Rhaena standing with the boys because those are his granddaughters and they are directly affected by this war because 1. they are daemon's kids and 2, they are betrothed to Jace and Luke.

Kayla

Also...Daemon's one redeeming quality is his love for his family. So it is out of character for him to do that to Rhaenyra who is one of the most important people to him. I think even he was a little shocked at what he did.

Aemond didn't just kill Rhaenyra's son, but Corlys' & Rhaenys' grandson & the heir to Driftmark. So if they weren't all in before, the Velaryons are now. Corlys was ready to retire to Driftmark & stay out of it but Rhaenys convinced him Rhaenyra is worth following. it was subtle but over the course of the episode Rhaenys begins to respect Rhaenyra as a leader. Perspective: Vhagar is three times the size of Drogon at the end of GOT. Vhagar will be damned near impossible to fight. The dragon Daemon was singing to is Vermithor, the next largest & oldest of the dragons that have had riders. Vermithor was the dragon of the old king in E1, Jahaeris. He hasn't had a rider in over 30 years.

We have to remember that part of their history is the END OF DRAGONS until the Mother of Dragons!!! Remember they talk about how at then end they were small, and kept in chains... Maybe the dragons not listening and taking things into their own hands is a part of why they became extinct. Just a theory.

Sunaerys

A dragon is not a slave. In the books, Dany struggles with Drogon. There are plenty examples from Fire and Blood where the rider don’t control their dragons. Like Viserys said in the first episode; The idea that we control the dragons is an illusion

Acash33

The writing has been so bad last few episodes. It’s like change everything to make daemon more evil and the green side more sympathetic.

Acash33

Daemon was right about the war. The only thing I could not stand this season was the fake trying to keep the peace while they’re literally both going for the throne. Like Alicent literally raised the kids to hate them and she thinks it’s going to be peaceful usurping the throne. Also Rhaenyra literally heard everything about them stealing the throne and thinks there is a peaceful solution.

Dante

Rhaenyra never said she thinks there's a peaceful solution. All she said was she doesn't want to immediately thrust the realm into all-out war without thinking. The current plan (well, before Luke was killed) is to gather their allies while preparing a blockade of the Narrow Sea. Once they have rallied the Starks and by extension the North, the Tullys, the Vale, etc. they will lay siege to Kings Landing and block trade by sea forcing the Greens to surrender without war. Now, this could still very well lead to war if the Greens use their dragons but this way Rhaenyra is taking every measure to avoid it. Now that Luke is dead though all bets are off. Gonna be a bloodbath

House Powers

As a book reader, we don't even need the books to know that dragons aren't slaves. Dany said as much in season 3 and her relationship with Drogon told us that.

Acash33

They literally declared war by naming Aegon king. Otto literally tells her that they have already reached out to other houses when they meet with him. They already know the Lannisters are backing the Hightowers. There was going to be no peace at all. The Hightowers literally set everything in motion and had a head start it was ridiculous to think they were going to plan this without the greens taking action first. Yes they want to try to get other houses on their side but you don’t sit around and wait. The other big mistake is not realizing Borros was not his father and would not show loyalty.

House Powers

That's only one way to look at it though. Reaching out to houses does not guarantee support, Otto said that those houses were *considering* their proposals. The kingdom will be pretty split in half next season. And you're saying there was going to be no peace at all from a third person's birds-eye view when we're really on the outside viewing the characters' reality. I think we need to be careful of judging characters who don't know that their story has already been written, we're just seeing it play out. It's not a mistake to ask a son to revisit the oath of his father either, especially when many oaths to Rhaenyra included clauses of perpetuity with their progeny as well. For example, "you have the support of me and MY HOUSE" - that's not just including one's army/fleet, but usually a mutually beneficial alliance with that family for a long time.

Acash33

They usurped the throne there was going to be war regardless. Also the blockade wasn’t just going to force the greens to surrender. Also they all know Otto is not stupid of course he had some type of plan. Also those oaths they know don’t mean anything as she has seen other houses assuming Aegon was taking the throne Lannisters as a prime example.

Sunaerys

At the end, it seemed like Dany controlled 3 dragons. Even if Jon bonded with Rhaegal, he followed Dany in episode 4. So I’d say that it certainly wasn’t that obvious in GoT that dragons had their own minds, maybe in the beginning to the show.
