Hey all!

Here's the Patreon Ramble for the month of August!

I've been rambling a lot lately, sorry if it's too much Joel for one month!

Hope you're all having a lovely month so far. It really means a lot that you guys stick around through all the kinds of different videos and films I make.

And, as always, thanks so much for the support!

Love, Joel

Patreon Ramble #28 - Ramblin' Man

Lord I was born a ramblin' man!

Essayistic, will be a word now. I've been enjoying the new channel, but I was a bit late on finding it! Bouncing around with different types of videos is best and might help with burnout - more advice for myself, haha. Writing a poem and doodling sounds like great advice as well. I've been doing some small pointillism pieces in pen & ink, it slightly helps. Nice ramble! 🙂

I love these vids. It's the best part of being a Patreon imo. As for next years's film awards: What if you had it where in order to submit your film for next year, you have to promise to rate two other submitted films? If you dole out the films to be reviewed correctly, each film should get at least two reviews! Movie with the best review/rating wins!

I love these rambles!! I agree with your friends this is really comforting to just listen to. When you plan out videos, do you have a board or a way of planning out stuff/content weeks in advance?

I love these rambles, worth it to pay every month for them. It’s almost like a themed calendar. Also helps me to stay motivated in continuing my own creative endeavors. I’m traveling for a while soon and may try writing a poem every day. Been wanting to try song writing from a new perspective recently and I rarely ever start with words. Also, I think your diaristic films are often my favorite on your channel. I love your road trip films and one of my favorites is this really old one from the NYC era where you got in an altercation with a random person in public before taking a trip for a weekend. I may be misremembering but it was something like that

I've watched most of your rambles since becoming a patron and I do hope you keep making them. They provide a wonderful insight into your perspective on life, movies, etc. You are the most original Youtube content creator I know, and I'm so glad to have found your channel <3

Although I love your funny videos, it's your more sincere and honest content that made me decide to become a patreon!

I really could listen to you talk about anything but You've said so much that has genuinely helped me in my own creative process and I really have to thank you for that

Hey Joel. Just watched your video where you talk about your decision re. Island. You seemed really sad and I just wanted to say I hope you're doing ok and please know people genuinely care about you as much as you obviously care for others.

For next year's awards, I have an idea that might work to do audience voting without it becoming a popularity contest. What you do is you set up a website where people can register, and then they are given (a link to) a random submitted movie. After watching the movie, the user can rate the movie in different ways: creativity, enjoyability, you name it. After rating it, they get another random movie that they can rate. This way, you make sure all movies have an equal chance of being voted for. Of course, sometimes someone thinks a movie is really boring or just not to their taste, and in that case they can skip a movies, but only once a day. After the audience voting is done, you yourself can take a look at the results and see which have the highest ratings and watch them to see what you think.
