There’s so much to unpack in this episode. But boy, that scene with the police was frightening, especially in today’s context. And it’s so crucial that it was Riggins who retaliated first against the other team’s provocations. Smash never did. But Smash is the one the cops went after. I also appreciated Mac telling a bit of his history. I think there are a lot of people like that, who grow up on racism, for a time take a bold stand against racism in some forms, but over the years they don’t keep evolving with changing events and standards, and find themselves out of date and out of sync, being the racists themselves. It’s sad, but it’s still ultimately their own failing and I agree with Tammy that he should have been fired. But him resigning kind of put Coach Taylor on a different foot, feeling defensive for Mac. This is such a good show!
