It’s so interesting how Madeline, Louise, and Paris all, in their own ways, get to see what a real mother is in this episode. She’s not oblivious or distracted like their mothers. And she’s not weirdly restrictive and severe like Lane’s mother. And we already know how Lorelei can often seem more like a friend than a mother to Rory. But when it’s necessary, Lorelei can be a very effective mother and disciplinarian. And even when she does that she doesn’t come off as abusive, angry in a personal way, or in any way excessive. I think one reason Paris feels it’s her best night ever is that she got to see what a real, caring mother is like.
