This is a really interesting episode in regard to the new Quarterback and the ethical issues with him coming to Dillon. As I understand it, since these are mostly public schools, they can’t entice anyone to move there just to play on the team. But if a person decides to move there and happens to be a good player, they can of course play on their new school’s team. So Coach Taylor doesn’t really want the new guy, and objects to how Buddy and some others are bending the rules to lure Voodo’s family to Dillon. But if they have moved to Dillon, Taylor can’t really refuse to let Voodo on the team if he’s actually a good player. From watching the show years ago, I kind of remember that there is a pattern to how games are played out on the show across the episodes. For sure each season of the show is one season of high school football. And I believe we get to see a game every other episode, sometimes at the end of an episode, sometimes at the start, maybe alternating between the two. One of the huge things about this show is that we will get to see in some pretty realistic detail what’s involved in rehabilitation for spinal cord injury and subsequent disability. It almost becomes a second major storyline running parallel to the Dillon Panthers’ story. Personally, I think Coach Taylor should have made Smash walk home along with Riggins, for mouthing off to the new reporter.
