This episode lays the foundation for the show even more than the pilot ... especially Coach Taylor coming to understand what kind of person Matt Saracen is, and trying to find the hidden strengths he must have. I love how he talks to Matt so subtly and respectfully about how he probably feels a bit inferior, since he’s obviously not rich, his parents aren’t around, he has to take care of his Grandmother, etc. And Jason Street kind of giving Coach Taylor a few tips about Matt is a really nice touch. It shows that the star of the team had taken the time to get to know his virtually ignored backup teammate,
