I think that if Felicity had come forward immediately and simply said that a bit of spell checking got way out of hand they wouldn't have had nearly as much of a problem ... maybe not even both getting an F. By dragging it out and making them have a hearing it just made matters worse. But I love the detail we got at the end that what really bothered Ben was thinking that Felicity thought he wasn't smart. That's why he insisted on trying to talk himself through it. He felt insulted by Felicity's re-write and wanted to prove that he could master a paper written at her level. Also, the whole thing was written really well. It's hard to show someone having difficulty explaining a paper they have already read and re-read. But failing to explain the meaning of "dramatic irony" means he really didn't understand the idea of it, even though he obviously read it in the paper. He was sunk at that point.

I love this show, but it should be called “mixed messages, neediness and clinginess”😂 Sometimes Felicity is so brave like going up to Ben in the pilot episode, but then other times she thinks one thing means something bigger than it really is. But Ben can be frustrating as well. I hate when people know someone likes them but they continue to be their friend anyway knowing that the more that person (Felicity) spends time with them the more they will fall in love with them.
