Feels like an age since I've done one of these haha!

My sincerest apologies for being so radio silent these last couple of weeks as well as being unable to publish the first week of July. There was a family emergency that necessitated a "drop everything and catch the next flight" attitude. So I've been dealing with an issue back in the motherland since.

I'm back in office now so the chapters should come out steady like this past week. I didn't wanna write excuses until after I'd already delivered this week's batch.

An update on IoTV! 6 chapters from 39-41.5 are available. We're now reaching the end of Bas' time off from school and he should soon be heading back to Hogwarts.

Once again, I want to apologize and thank you all for remaining here despite my absence.

Crazy he's on DH 1 in just 4 months or so. So the other movies he showed an interest in a few chapters ago, the Jonah Hill one and the spy movie will have to wait until after DH is done with the filming? And they should soon have the script for DH so probably a screenwriters meeting coming up in a few chapters. Neat. Looking forward to what changes were made to this book and what they'll do instead of a dragged out camping montage

I hope you and your family are doing well. That said, real talk: Life will happen. Emergencies will pop up. You'll want to take a few weeks off to decompress and relax. Please try to give your audience a one or two sentence update - as though taking a vacation off with your RL boss - and clock out. Don't need to include specifics. Don't need to kiss butts. Too many creators randomly vanish on sites like these and it's easy for people to become jaded. Going radio silent with no warning is something that should be treated with extreme caution. Your reputation for honesty and dependability is an extremely valuable currency that is difficult to recoup.

First off, I want to say I love this fic (im even paying to read it!) and im just pointing out things I've noticed, I'm not saying the fic is bad or anything. The fic is fun to read. The prose flows rhythmically and sounds natural if i try to read it out loud. It's kept relatively simple and does its job without getting lost in excessive details. The narration is charming, and could talk about any subject at length without making things boring. The progression of Bas is believable, the story has pace and doesn't rush too much. I haven't found a single character in the fic that's felt out of place or hasn't added anything to the story. the jokes are funny, Bas interacts with other human beings in human ways, often resulting in funny dialogue. Characters themselves are funny, quirky and believable. Chapters are often quite witty, upbeat and hysterically in a funny way. Lines like: "Her warm breath tickled my ear; more than just the hairs on the back of my neck stood at attention. Then she said something that opened my eyes. “Wake up.” Huh? “C’mon, man. Stay woke.” Hula girl, why was your voice suddenly so manly?" Bas has his flaws, he can appear a bit self-centered and arrogant at times. My own headcanon is that (even if this fic is slice-of-life) Bas always carries with him an underlying sense of anxiety and fear in the very back of his mind. A fear of people finding out he's a fake, a fraud, a thief -- that all he really is just some 22 year old guy from another timeline who sneezed and woke up as an 8 year old and stole Dan's spot as Harry Potter. A fear that everything that led him to now was just one huge cosmic joke. Which leads him to act out. (yeah, ok even to me that feels a bit too melodramatic, feel free to ignore all that) Also, when rereading the fic, it becomes a bit obvious that Bas's status as orphan is completely ignored. Again, my own headcanon is just David Heyman taking the staff to the side one day and telling them to be mindful around Bas. Which would also go on to explain why the cast/staff are willing to spend time with a 10 year old, no matter how "mature" he is. Even if Bas has a subconscious blindness to his orphan status, it would be something that would come up in other POVs such as Alan Rickman. Man sees a 12 year old scribe notes on contracts but doesn't even wonder where the brat's parents are? Also what happened to internet McGuffin? Are we all just pretending it doesn't exist anymore? Bas used it to cheat on his exams (and honestly, a 22 year old needed to cheat to get full marks on O-levels when he had 2 years to prepare? The same man who can make investments and deals with Uniqlo and negotiate for contracts?) Also, I really don't need cliffhangers to read on. Especially when half of them seem to be forgotten. It reads as if the Bas, at 78, is telling this story about how he got to where he is, to his grandkids, who keep getting distracted. Not ruinous, but enough to be consistently annoying me at this point. Like the time Emma gave Bas a copy of Deathly Hallows to read on the plane and hinted at the acknowledgements. What should been a chapter with Bas reading the bloody book for the 100th time and the readers get an idea of what changed in this timeline and a teary moment when Bas arrives at the end of the book. Instead, we get a very confusing table read chapter where Jo is angry at Bas, and in the next chapter we find out it was all an act --like no, just no. Last thing is chapters feel a bit cut to fit a quota. Like chapters that are part 1&2 really are just 1 chapter. That's it. Also, while having individual new scenes for the new movies are cool, they don't add much to the story and aren't chapters. Not really. Again I don't hold any of this against you or anything. Just wanted to say it. Please don't banish me to the shadow realms. Also hope you're doing ok and your family as well.

I agree with most of this and it was a fair criticism on cliffhangers as well. They're unnecessary especially if the next chapters isn't posted the next day with a satisfying resolution, like the AN for DH. I knew it would work out but still those 2-3 days made a lot of readers annoyed I think. What I disagree with you about is to not have chapters where Bas acts a new scene. Stuff like the shrieking shack scene, the hospital wing breakdown, the screaming at Hermione and Ron, The Boggart with Molly, St Mungos, the Gaunt shack are some of my favourites in this story. Both for the authors take on the filmmaking improvements that still are in character with Cuaron's style. Even those that have little change they can still give some small insight into how the film is progressing differently in a showdonttell style. I know some other authors do this with a movie premiere recap prose, which can work as well but I like Bar Calaks style better. We don't get all the answers to what differs in GoF OoTP and HbP but we get some. Some of these chapters contributed less and weren't as funny as others but as a concept I really like it. And certain chapters like Mrs Stephens and then breaking down in the hospital wing scene, were pretty much perfect to me. It offers a lot for exposition that can tie into his acting process, while at the same time we get some pretty clever changes in the cinematography to the movie I can practically see it myself when reading.

Will there be a chapter today or tomorrow?

And it's an interesting take on the orphan thing. Even if it's not mentioned, even In their POV. He would look like a fairly precocious kid especially at the start, but both for the franchises sake and Bas himself they'd need to support him through it. Hiring Cadbury could be part of that, they don't want him to spiral out of control in a situation like this. Can you imagine if Bas wasn't really a reincarnatior? They'd think he needs as much guidance as he can possibly get. Also from a moral standpoint they wouldn't want him to become overwhelmed. In their mind he can be as impressive as he likes but a kid can only handle so much pressure stress and responsibility. Then when he's 13+ the temptations. So it'd make sense if they have a sort of silent understanding that Alan Rickman, Kenneth Brannagh and others give him some guidance and direction. Cadbury handles his day to day and maybe some of the child actors parents have talked to them. But to the kids it might look like everything is fine and the adults are overreacting. Bas handles the fame better than most apart from his slight Diva ways. It could have been nice to get more insight into this if something about his orphan status went on behind the scenes. Like a retrospective on the series by someone once it's done. I think there were a few books written on the making of the franchise, then they can have a section on Bas and the other young actors. It'd be cool to see the fans reactions to such a thing as well. It would improve his image even more
