Hi Everyone,

Tomorrow at 2:00PM Pacific I'm going live to tackle a handful of tunes YOU suggested in a post I accidentally deleted. I'll make a list of those tunes below and I'll try to get through as many as I can!

This is a new thing. I'm going in cold with these songs with no prep beforehand, trying to figure them out by ear, and showing how I use Music Theory to make the process faster. The goal is to show you my tricks and thought process, then point you toward resources here so you can practice this important skill yourself.

Feel free to comment songs you're interested in for the next one. I may not get to all of them, but who knows. Maybe this will be a regular thing!

Here is the current list of songs (and questions) you suggested:

Toshiki Soejima - Isn't She Lovely (Stevie Wonder Cover)

Jimi Hendrix - Little Wing

My Favorite Things - Julie Andrews original Coltrane version

Crossroads - Robert Johnson original Cream version

TЁЯRA - ZЁNITH - isolated guitar track

David Bowie - Rebel Rebel

"No specific song, but curious how to go about determining, by ear, that someone is using a capo, and/or an alternate tuning… just time and experience?" - Mason

Frank Ocean - Self Control

Elliot Smith - Happiness/The Gondola Man

"Hi Scott. I’m very interested in the process of breaking down songs into their parts, but also identifying parts of songs that make it unique to an artist. Apart from the obvious, voice, guitar style, what makes a Stevie Ray Vaughan song or Dire Straits, Adele or even an Ed Sheeran song? Interested in why Adele and Ed Sheeran continue to produce hit songs, but someone like Elton John has been doing it for several decades. Has his music changed that much? Anyway, not quite what you were asking for, Scott, sorry. Thanks" Ray F

There were more song recommendations but this is probably already more songs and questions than I can get through in an hour or two! Especially if I'm explaining my process as I go.

A great session. Especially loved the analysis of My Favourite Things.👍

Prefer the slower approach with more detailed mapping and interpretation.
