After much consideration, I decided to take this lesson down.
If you'd like to learn more about why I took this lesson down, keep reading. If you'd rather move on to the next Music Theory Monday lesson, lesson 3 is the perfect lesson to watch after lesson 1 - this second lesson was out of sequence anyway! Click here for Music Theory Monday lesson 3
This was one of the very first videos I made for Patreon back when I started in March of 2020. I had been mulling over this online music school idea and I was already in a strange transitional place in my life when the pandemic hit. So as lockdowns were happening in Seattle, and as my private students were less inclined to try zoom, I thought "now is the time."
I knew I wanted to build out some courses with PDFs and play along tracks, but I also wanted a fast-track series where I could just whiteboard concepts for more intermediate students who already had a sense of basic music theory. Thus, Music Theory Monday was created. This was the second lesson and it was based on a question from one of my Patrons, something like "How do I solo over chord tones?"
I attempted a lesson showing an overview of how to go about doing this kind of thing. For a lot of people - especially those expecting a linear set of Music Theory Monday lessons, this one was confusing and for some, even discouraging.
After this lesson, I decided Music Theory Monday should be a linear series slowly building up theory concepts. I also realized I needed a course about soloing over chords tones, so I created the first CAGED Soloing series. At the moment, I'm reworking that series to be even more clear and potent, and you can find that series here. But keep in mind, I strongly recommend watching Music Theory Monday up to about lesson 19 before moving on to this CAGED Soloing series.
Anyway, long story short, I'm removing this video to keep people from getting confused and/or discouraged. Thanks for being a Patron and thanks for choosing to learn something from me!
