To help with the characters, I suggest writing down some physical/personality traits to help differentiate them. Reiner (blonde, big, dependable) wasn't on the wall with Eren, that was Thomas (blonde, sideburns, average build, unsure of himself). Samuel (dark hair, tall, quiet) was knocked off the wall and was KO'd, Sasha(red/brown hair, ponytail, always hungry, Potato Girl) ran down to get within range of the maneuver gear grapples and hooked him in the leg to keep him from falling to his death.

This story definitely teaches you to expect the unexpected. Believe it or not this is all nothing in the grand scheme of things, this show will just keep getting better and better with each episode. So excited for the next episodes. Some pointers just to help clear some things up hopefully. NOT spoilers: - The titan peeking over the wall is the colossal tian (colossal means gigantic). That titan is the one that broke the gate of Shiganshina (the semicircular district protruding out of wall Maria.) Yes it’s the same one that appeared again this episode. - Then later in that same episode the Armoured Titan appeared (still bigger than the naked titans but not as big as the colossal titan) and broke the gate of wall Maria by running through it. (The bulky and muscular one with hardened, plated skin covering its entire body and face. Also has whiteish hair). - Mikasa was feeding Sasha as ‘compensation’ for throwing her under the bus and saying that the commotion was Sasha’s fart lmao. (Yes its also Sasha that sat down next to Mikasa in the previous episode) - Annie is the blonde girl with her hair up in a bun - Samuel is the one dangling and Sasha ran after him and caught him by attaching one of her ODM gear hooks to his leg and the other hook to the wall to keep her from falling - The wall the colossal titan destroyed this episode was Trost (another semicircular district but this time this district is attached to wall Rose so for now, Rose has not been destroyed. I know it's a lot to keep track of but it'll become easier as you familiarise yourself with the show. Also feel free to keep watching ahead even if you don’t upload it right away. Take your time trying to understand and digest things but definitely keep watching if that’s what you want. We can’t blame you this show is very bingeable!

Just to explain some confusion. There are three major walls. Wall Sina, Wall Rose, and Wall Maria. Each wall has 4 districts that protrude from the wall which is where the major city’s are. These protrusion have gates which are the only way through the walls. There’s an inner gate and an outer gate to these districts. In the second episode the colossal titan broke the outer gate to the district Shiganshina which let the titans in the city Erin grew up in. then later I think in episode 3 the Armored titan who is different then the colossal titan broke through the inner gate letting titans officially thought Wall Maria. The armored titan is the size of a normal titan and looks pretty similar to one but he seemed to have hardened skin. It was able to sprint at major speeds and run right through the second gate as it was closing with ease which has never happened before. At the end of episode 4 the colossal titan has broken through the outer gate of district Trost so humanity hasn’t lost Wall Rose fully unless the inner gate gets broken.

One cool addition to the clarification that Sasha was the one who saved Samuel who had been knocked out. This is one of the first examples of how spot on and important the instructor’s evaluations of them are at the beginning of Episode 4. Sasha’s strength was “unconventionally good instincts”. With the Collosal Titan suddenly appearing, everyone, even Erin for a bit, is completely stunned, shocked, and at best save themselves as they’re falling. Sasha is the only one that is already immediately taking action, noticing Samuel falling and running down the wall to save him. I think it’s such an awesome addition to her character for someone who up until this point has been the silly “potato girl”.

It takes a bit to learn names. Don't sweat it. Most people use characteristics until they really learn them. Sasha=Potato girl, Connie=Discount Tanaka Ect If you give them a nickname for now, everyone will still understand who you're talking about because we all do it Jordan's face at the appearance of the Titan had me laughing so hard. My co worker was startled. Then I thought you were crying and felt bad. Anime can do that to you... God. I'm so excited for you to watch more. You two will have an amazing journey Samuel is dangling. Sasha ran down the wall and shot her hook into his leg to save him. Sasha is a humorous character, but don't forget, she was one of the top ten.

It was Jean who wants to join the Military Police and lives inside the walls, not Reiner. Reiner is the buffed blonde guy with deep calming voice tone who always kinda acts as mentor for Eren and others. The Colossal Titan is the red HUGE titan. The Armored Titan is the one that runs through the wall and kinda looks like Iron Man imo. As someone else has mentioned, it’s better for you guys to write down some physical appearances and personality traits for characters since you guys are obviously having troubles differentiating them and this is mostly because you’re new to anime. Differentiating characters by their hair colors is not going to work for AoT, it’s practically same as trying to differentiate K-Pop group members by their hair colors.

One thing I did notice was that Eren never tells the others directly that he literally saw his mom get eaten by a Titan…blood rained down (in Jordan’s words) and everything. They know he was there in the midst of it all but not the real trauma that fuels his desire for wanting to join the Survey Corps and kill all the titans. •Do you think the other trainees would treat him differently and be more receptive to his choice in joining the Survey Corps? Or would they still think he was crazy? •We know that some trainees enlisted to save face or to make it to the Interior for an easier life (like Jean). What do you think about their reasons for enlisting? Would you still consider them to be strong or courageous knowing that their intentions are geared more towards their own benefit than for humanity? •The Colossal Titan is back! Bertolt mentioned that a lot of the trainees haven’t experienced how terrifying the titans are. Now they’re about to! Do you think those that Eren inspired into choosing the Survey Corps, will go back on their decision after this experience? Hope those made sense. My thoughts got jumbled up after I saw you guys lose it when the Colossal Titan appeared lol! When Jared yelled “Onward!” I raised my arm and yelled “Onward!” ✊🏽😂 With the way Jordan was watching the intro, I really thought you were going to give in this time! I'm probably commenting this too early in the video but the top ten get to chose where their assignments are, the military police, the garrison or the survey corps (scout regiment) but it explains that most in the top 10 chose the military police because of its relative safety within the innermost wall (Sina)

It becomes increasingly difficult to wait for the reaction to the next episode! I already know what happens and yet I have hype for your reaction. Here are my questions for you: in this episode we were able to see some of the men from the survey corps for a few seconds, do you think we will see them again? and when? What kind of people do you imagine they would be considering they face titans face to face every day and are constantly in danger of dying or seeing their comrades die? Do you think they are similar to Eren, and therefore above all seek revenge, or similar to Armin who is driven by curiosity to know what is beyond the walls?

Rewatching aot with u guys is amazing. I'm excited for you to see the character development they will have. The connection u will feel with them soon enough, will be deep. Those who watched Aot agree that we were growing & fighting with them, and when the show ended it's very hard for us to accept the fact that we will see not* them anymore. Guy's, i hope you read this message. I have some important suggestions!!! 1. You need to make a list of the characters and there physical appearance and they're characteristics! Its important for you to tell them apart, otherwise you won't remember who did or said things..... And also to get to know the individual characters.!! -especially because they're will be more characters introduced soon!! - you need to draw a picture or print one, of the walls and how they are build!!! There are 3 Walls, and each of them have 4 big cities around each wall. To get true the walls you need to go into a gate that leads into the city and then true the 2. important gate to get true the wall. In the first episode the collosal(giant/big/tall) titan (who does not have armor! Rather just muscles without skin) destroyed the 1. Gate that led the smal titans enter one of the 4 big cities of wall Maria (city called Shiganshina)..... Then the armor Titan (the Bodybuilder/Football player)(who has an thick Armor, and cannons cant harm him) .. He destroyed the 2. And important gate that leads into the wall and the whole area between wall maria and wall rose..... 3.- get a white bord and markers. For writing your thoughts, of predictions etc. Show and tell us the things you wrote down. I'd sugest you show the white board mainly here on patreon. You can then see and and change your opinions as the story progresses. And make your own picture of what could happen etc.. Just some notes for your self, we will see them but mainly not interfere in those notes written there unless there are major mistakes that are misleading like wrong names or etc. That was a lot, i could write more but i think thats enough for now. The others viewers can read this and tell what you think about it. Cant wait for the next episodes 😁🫰✌️

Me again 🤣. Another thing pls stick with these 3 anime and don't add new ones for now. Especially because of Aot and also Death Note where a lot of thinking is involved. Those 2 + an Sports anime(Haikyuu) and the movies in between should be enough.. Would also be better for us since you could make at least 2 episodes for every anime every week. It's vital you guys know (at the minimum) who the characters Shadis introduced in the training evaluation are. Personally I find it easy to tell them apart, but since you're new to anime it may be a bit difficult. Here's a bunch of cadets to keep in mind: Eren, Mikasa, Armin, Jean, Marco, Reiner, Bertholdt, Connie, Sasha, Annie. There are a few other cadets who haven't really been introduced yet via name but have had scenes so far, but for now just focus on knowing those listed above. Characters on the wall during the attack were: Eren, Connie, Thomas, Mina, Samuel, Daz, Sasha. One of AoTs greatest strengths is how important and truly human everyone feels. Even so-called "side-characters" can play a vital part or drive the story in some way. After all, in reality there aren't "side-characters", they're people with their own lives, dreams and fears. Go into AoT with this mindset as much as possible.

Also the colossal titan is the one that is taller than the walls, hence the name "colossal". The armoured one got its name from what appears to be armoured plating on it that cannons were completely ineffective against. Also when they're mentioned in the show, they say colossal and armoured when they appear on the screen respectively.

As Armin said in the second episode in response to the soldiers complaining that they have to feed refugees, "The further out you are, the less they care". Now, we find out that people are incentivised to make it into the top ten ranking of cadets because it gives them the option of going to the inner wall, Wall Sina. We know that the center of Sina is where the king resides, and is obviously the safest place within the walls - not only because of it's innermost location, but because there is the highest concentration of top-level soldiers who are stationed there. AoT isn't just an action anime with crazy fights, it contains a lot of brilliant and often subtle points about the politics and class structure within the walls. There have been numerous hints at how the class system and the politics that influence it work in AoT, both stated and visual. What are your ideas about how AoT's society is structured, and can you think of potential reasons for this being the case? Are there any parallels that can be drawn between real-world governments, and the influence of political power over our societies?

Expect that same reaction you had at the end of this episode for the upcoming ones. Can’t wait for your reactions towards the end of this well thought out story. Fun fact: The creator of AOT, Hajime Isayama, was just 19 when he began writing this story. Isayama was rejected at first by a big publishing company who found the story unsuitable for their audience and requested that he make changes. So thankful Kodansha, another publishing company, decided to work with Isayama. It is considered one of the best-selling manga for a reason. After an eleven-year run we received the grand finale. All great things must come to an end.

Sorry just playing games no spoilers for my favorite anime

No worries about getting spoiled by intro song sequences for a while guys. In general anime tends to change intros every season or so and usually are more about setting the mood than anything. Sometimes you get minor spoilers in visuals (like in Haikyu the intro shows some characters you haven't met yet) but rarely anything bad. The intros also often show scenes that never actually happen in the story, so definitely don't read into them much. For Attack on Titan I would say there is nothing spoiled for the first four openings. There is some cool symbolism to stuff that comes later but its pretty impossible to figure out what it means beforehand. The 5th opening (which runs from episode 50-59) has a super obvious but minor spoiler for episode 51, and then a much bigger spoiler for that whole season if you go through it shot by shot and analyze it pretty closely (you guys seem pretty media literate so might be worth skipping) The 7th opening (which runs from episode 76 to 87) is a spoiler up to episode 80. This is also one of the openings that is in English (some are Japanese, some are German) and the lyrics are also a spoiler up to episode 80.

Great reaction as always guys!! Its so entertaining and heartwarming to watch you guys genuinely enjoying Anime :) All I ask of you though, is to please please please remember Sasha's character lol. All the times you were confused about who it was or who is that girl Mikasa was getting close to, were in fact ALL Sasha. She is a very pivotal and beloved character, as mentioned in other comments, all the cadets mentioned by Shadis (the trainer) are significant ones. I'm sure you'll get accustomed to them as you go, just wanted to give my girl Sasha her acknowledgement ;) My question: Do you have any sort of theory regarding Mikasa and Eren's connection with each other? you already know that they're not related, they don't seem to be lovers as well so why do you think Mikasa is super protective and attached to Eren even though he can be cold and callous towards her at times? why is Mikasa close to his parents even before the tragedy struck?

I think you guys should watch “Kuroko’s Basketball” it’s a basketball anime on Netflix. Also I think you should watch anime’s in dub (English) so you can understand it better but if you like sub (Japanese) then you can keep watching in sub. I personally like dub better but to each their own.

But they said hegot the highest score on the written test which is mostly knowledge and like information about the titans and such i guess. You will see Armins true potential, his tactical skills. Let me help you with the most important characters (for now). Some names can be spelled slightly different depending on who translates it. But the different spelling isn't confusing at all. (Ch or K, au or ou, etc) The characters are often in duos or trios, so I'll split them to make it easier for you to follow along with the story without any spoilers. Character list: - Eren Yeager: (Brown hair and green eyes, boy) Ranked 5th in the graduating class. You should know him by now. - Mikasa Ackerman: (Black medium long hair, girl) Ranked 1st. The best of the class. You learn more about her later. - Armin Arlert: (Blond medium long hair, boy) Grew up with Eren and Mikasa. Very smart and had the best score on the written test, but was indeed not ranked in the top 10. His parents had passed away already and his grandpa took care of him until he was summoned to try to retake Wall Maria. His grandpa died during the operation to retake Wall Maria. So Armin became an orphan. (Side note: He's my second most favorite character) - Sasha Blouse: (Red brownish hair in a ponytail, girl) Ranked 9th. Ate the potato. She really likes food so she asked Mikasa if she could have her leftovers. Mikasa stuffed food in her mouth because she threw her under the bus with the fart comment. Has amazing intuation and survival skills. It was shown when the Colossal Titan reappeared. Samuel was injured and falling, and Sasha didn't hesitate. She released herself from the wall and ran as fast and as close as she could towards Samuel and shot her ODM gear through his leg and held both of them up. Samuel was dangling on the wall while Sasha was carrying both of them. - Connie Springer: (Shaved head, boy) Ranked 8th. Was very strong physically as described bij their trainer, Shadis. (Side note: He's underrated. He's not Tanaka T_T ) - Jean Kirschtein: (Light brown bair with a very clear undercut, boy) Ranked 6th. Wanted to join the Military Police to live an easy life. He thinks Mikasa is pretty and is a little jealous of Eren. (Side note: He's my most favorite character. I think he's underrated. I hope you'll understand why I like his character as we continue the journey) -Marco Bodt: (Black shorter hair with a little bit of an undercut and has freckles, boy) Ranked 7th. Wants to serve the King. Jean thinks he just wants to be safe, just like Jean himself. Marco denies it. - Reiner Braun: (Blond buff guy) Ranked 2nd. Physically strong and has a soldier's mentality. Helps Armin carry his bag for a moment. Eren asks Reiner for advise on how to use the ODM gear. Eren, Armin, Bertolt and Reiner went on a hike together. That's where Reiner tells Eren that he believes that Eren can pass the balancing test with the ODM gear. Reiner's goal is to go back to his home town one day. - Bertolt Hoover: (Tall with black hair without an undercut, boy) Ranked 3th. When Eren came to ask for tips on how to use the ODM gear, he told the story about seeing a titan from his window. While going on the hike with the 3 other boys, Bertolt says that most of them are in training because they don't want to lose face. And he admits that both him and Reiner plan to join the Military Police as well to stay safe. Reiner and Bertolt are from the same town and fled together. - Annie Leonhart: (Blond hair in a ponytail, girl) Ranked 4th. Really strong fighter but not very sociable. - Christa Lenz: (Small blond girl with loose hair) Ranked 10th. She gave Sasha a piece of bread when Sasha was punished. - There was a girl who carried Sasha to her bed as a favor. You'll learn her name later. - Karla Yeager: Eren's mom - Grisha Yeager: Doctor Yeager. Eren's dad. Some others already mentioned it, but at the end of the episode when Eren was standing on the wall before the Colossal Titan appeared, Eren was with Connie Springer, Sasha Blouse, Thomas Wagner (blond guy, not buff like Reiner), Mina (Girl with black hair and 2 pigtails), Samuel (Black hair that's slightly longer than Marco's, no freckles like Marco and not tall like Bertolt). It actually surprises me how confused you are by the different characters, I never had that problem. If you want to know how to pronounce the names, try to listen whenever a character calls someone by name. (Except for Bertolt. The voice actors can't pronounce Bertolt well and it has its own meme culture now. The "E" in Bertolt is more like the first "E" in Eren, not like the second "E" in Eren) You can also try to think of how it would be pronounced in German, since almost all the names are German or used in Germany. Write it down in Google translate and listen to it perhaps?

J&J are not only new to AoT but new to anime in general (which, no matter the anime, has a learning curve). AoT has such a large cast of characters, differences in character illustrations can be subtle (e.g., this brunette character has freckles, the other does not), the plot moves quickly and deeply, the animation is action-packed and moves quickly, they are reading subs, and only 4 episodes in. As the plot progresses, characters will become solidified for them.👍🏻

I suppose I've been watching anime for too long then 😂 Been watching it when I was about 13 and I'll turn 28 in 2 months 😶‍🌫️ English isn't my native language. It's Dutch and with the exception of small children shows, nothing really gets dubbed in Dutch. So I learned to read quickly and watch shows at the same time pretty early on and got used to it. Guys, you should really learn the characters names. Reiner and Bertholt usually stick together, Reiner is the Blonde big stoic guy and Bertholt is the black-haired one that is quiter. If the character talks about food and is brown-haired it's Sasha. Jean is the one that fights with Eren all the time that wants to be in the Military Police. Those I remember rn

Your gonna notice this alot😂 you usually have about 1-2 episodes of slow build up, then it ends on an INSANE beat, which forces you to watch another episode. This show goes so fast if u binge it bc of this

In my opinion, if you're empathizing with each character and really trying to put yourself in their shoes you *should* cry at some point during season 3, if not season 1. Either that or you're much more stoic than I am.

I second this. I love Kuroko no Basket!! Since you guys are basketball fans, you'll love this anime. It lowkey made me interested in watching basketball matches or at least made me understand what's happening in a game and not just look at players passing the ball and just shooting.

This is the same girl that ate the potato & bread & got blamed for farting. She’s a foodie 😊) - Connie Springer: buzz cut Tanaka looking guy, muted yellow-ish/green-ish eyes - Jean Kirstein: brown undercut, brown eyes ( jean pronounced like Shawn but with a j that has the sound of the ‘g’ in ‘beige’. Nah. Questioning things and making theories is a great way to interact with the media on a deeper level. If they figure it out early so what? Then it’s thanks to their curiosity and intellect to have figured it out. Even if you say it’s because of the audience’s questions. They won’t have known they got it right until the episode reveals it, so hold your horses.

It feels really nice to rewatch this and understand a lot of things that I missed out on the first time. Try and do detailed notes of the characters name it will help you on the long run. Lots of people to keep track of. Also Sasha is known as the food/potato girl. This gonna be a hell of a rollercoaster. You have no idea what you guys got yourself into. Child proof cause you will need it. You will need vacation after watching. It is mentally and emotionally draining. ENJOY!
