Take heed the will of the sounding bells, harbingers of fate. When their resonant echo is carried on the winds, and only your ear can hear with song, listen carefully, and take heed the will of the sounding bells. If your ear is caressed by a gentle chiming, if your heart is made to flutter within your breast and you are brought to tears of joy from the ecstatic resonance in your soul, rejoice! That sound is the song of Alegría, the Bronze Bell, who’s joyful tones are tidings of tremendous times weal. Your fate is that of plenty; your purse will be full, your harvest bountiful, and your children—numerous and healthy.

But. If the sound of the bell is not joyous. If it assaults your senses with deep and sinister wails; If your body is wracked with terror and you feel as though the weight of the world has been sat upon your shoulders and threatens to bring you to your knees—beware. That sound is the dirge of Aflicción, the Gold Bell, who’s sickening songs are signs of solemn woe. The fate of doom looms upon those that hear the Aflicción. Upon it giving ear to it’s call, make haste and leave the village, then swiftly set yourself upon the Path of the Penitent Pilgrimage—the two-thousand step path though the northern mountains—to the Capilla of the Twin Fates.

The path wrought with danger and death, trial and tribulation; many have perished along the way. But if luck is with you, you will survive, and there, deep in the mountains, you will be graced with the glorious sight of the Capilla of the Twin Fates—who’s twin steeples house Alegría and Aflicción. What happens thereafter is up to you. Some dedicate the rest of their lives to service in the capilla, wielding bells of all manner of sizes as both weapons and symbols of devotion. Others seek to untether themselves from the doom foretold by the ringing of Aflicción and take on momentous quests to alter their fate. Regardless of the chosen path, few return home.
