My favorite dracula / werewolf / monster stories are those where someone chooses to be a monster. The whole attack (rape) and tainted blood (miscegenation) trope is important and pointed and . . . gets boring. So I'm most interested in our child of sin. The killer who justifies his monstrousness. Lives among us. There's something of the original meaning of monster in there.

Agreed! Many of the "original" stories from the 16th century are of people who for various reasons seek the power to becone werewolves, and its not considered a morally good choice. With today's serial killers, terrorists, and others, we need a monster who chooses evil rather than just being understood.
