Gentrification is the CD and the culture is the tape. No one blames the makers of the CD as its symbolized progress but that progress impacted the tape as a derivative effect. Outrage from gentrification blames those who use or profit from CDs. Understandable, but misguided.

Love the conversation about Nippy Husssle. I think it’s hard for you guys to understand why Nippy had to be in the hood because y’all aren’t from the hood. He had to be there because at the end of the day the drug dealers and criminals are there all the time and they interact with the kids you’re trying to reach on a daily, and if you’re not there at least sometimes who do you think they are most likely to follow. You can’t lead the sheep if you’re afraid to stand against the wolves. Love the show, all the way from Louisiana.

I think the thing that irks people about gentrification is the idea that new people move into a neighbourhood and then immediately start demanding that things within that neighbourhood (that have often been there for decades and make up a huge part of the culture) are changed to accommodate them. This is happening in the UK with the Notting Hill Carnival.
