Finally, when we were done, Ron led me into the next room where there was an examination chair and a rather innocuous looking IV bag.
“Is that all there is to it?” I asked.
“Yup,” he said. “We just hook you up to the IV and you lie here for the next half hour.”
“Half hour?” I said. “Can’t we do it in 20 minutes?”
Ron looked at me like I’d just dribbled on my shirt. “This is a life changing moment for you,” he said. “After this, nothing is going to be the same.”
“Look, this is all surface stuff, right?” I said. “Appearance?”
“Well, it’s a little more than that,” he said.
“It’s how I look, body type, all that stuff, right? None of that really matters. What really matters is who I am inside and that’s not going to change.”
“If you say so,” said Ron. I removed my shirt and then he hooked me up to the IV.
I pulled out my phone and called my study partner, Coley. I needed to tell him I was going to be a little late.
