An écorché sculpture depicts a human body with the skin removed, exposing the underlying muscles, tendons, and bones. The term "écorché" comes from the French word for "flayed" or "skinned."

These sculptures are a vital tool for studying anatomy. By studying an écorché sculpture, you will gain a deeper understanding of the underlying structure of the body, which will inform your drawings, paintings, or sculptures.

This model, along with the skull, will be referenced in my ongoing Anatomy for Portrait Artists (APA) course. It is also included as a model in my soon to be released app: HeadStudy.

Ideally your study of this model will be made in conjunction with one of these book:

  1. "Artistic Anatomy" by Paul Richer: https://www.amazon.com/Artistic-Anatomy-Practical-Students-Illustrators/dp/0486202410
  2. "Anatomy for Artists" by Eliot Goldfinger: https://www.amazon.com/Anatomy-Artists-Spiral-Eliot-Goldfinger/dp/0195052064

Using these references you will be able to know and label your drawings which will ensure a better retention of what you are learning.
