Quick, there's no time to explain! Friday! Here's what I got done this week:

  • Added invisible walls around the camera to keep the player within its bounds
  • Made a functional pause menu

Can't talk for too long -- celebrating Thanksgiving today and leaving soon! I've gotta make this one quick:

Invisible walls are cool! They keep the player in bounds!

Functional pause menus are also cool! The hardest part was getting the buttons to look right, oddly enough. I never have an easy time with UI stuff. >.<

Also, I tried yesterday to get the foot to stop as soon as it stomps the player, but identifying where the player is in relation to the foot while its stomping is... different in Godot. Still trying to figure that one out.

Next week I'll try to have the player squish figured out, and I'll have more time to set up gifs showing at least this stuff off. In the meantime, Taco Bell! And also turkey. Uh... Taco Bell tomorrow! Yeah! I'll see you guys again next week! Hopefully I won't be in a hurry then. COFFEE!!!

Finally we won't be forgotten and loss off the screen! That is an easy way to enter the backrooms and nobody would want that to happen to a protagonist we barely met... Lastly I cannot wait for some foot-squish gifs! Not just because there will finally be some art to look at, but also because that is a good move for you, since that will engage the people who do not find moving shapes amusing at all...

Oh, don't worry, he doesn't enter the backrooms. He falls off the face of their small plane of existence right into the incinerator, where he will be baked. And then there will be cake. :D The gifs I mentioned are still gonna be all shapes; I won't be adding any art until the gameplay is fun and flows smoothly. I learned the "don't make art yet" lesson years ago when I made a bunch of art for what amounted to a broken game. &gt;.&lt; That said, I agree that the art will help out a lot. I need to get on that concept art so I can spread my GLORIOUS VISION! :P

We could be doing the competition for people to do art for this game... or I could just do fanart all by myself if you don't mind...

I'd be very interested in seeing how you envision the game, so please do! (If you have the time, that is; no pressure either way.) I'll start on some concept art this week to serve as the basis/example for the contest. Once I have the drawing finished, I'll probably wait until sometime in January to start the contest when people aren't bogged down by the holidays. :)
