I always loved this episode. You're right there is a lot that's unhealthy about their relationship (much of it showcased in this ep). But to me, this is just about how difficult it is to be, to live with every time you've failed the people you love or fallen short, and with the uncertainty of whether or when you will again, of how hard it can be to just get through the next moment when you're at a low ebb and full of self loathing and pain. And also the tiny part of you that wants to blow up your life and make yourself a little cocoon out of the ashes.

A lot of people like this episode but personally it's one of my least favorites. I am happy that some things got resolved though. I'm happy that they addressed Giles/Angelus tension, because a lot of shows would just forget that was a conflict. And that Angel's return was addressed. Oz was very mature in this episode too- obviously it would be fine if he didn't forgive Willow, but I feel like the conversations they had were mature and forgiving and wholesome. But man, the fake snow and everything. Like you, I didn't feel any sympathy for Angel, so it has hard to be moved by the cheesy scene/s. Buffy literally told Giles that she's over him, then it ends with a romantic scene after they fought and he decides to not kill himself? I know it's a show and all but I can personally never get into this episode. I think I'm in the minority though, judging by the rating of this episode.

What a perfect timing for this episode! Happy Holidays <3 Very interesting…I get your view on the Angel issue. What I love about watching several reactors is getting to see their opinions on different topics and even though I don't agree with some of them, it always opens my eyes a little and I think about those things in a new light. I personally love this episode. Buffy once again tackles serious topics and hides them behind metaphors. I'm not sure if anyone has mentioned Passion of the Nerd to you yet but he does wonderful analyses on every episode and his analysis of this episode is one of his best in my opinion (but they're unfortunately very spoilery so I would not recommend watching them before you finish the show ☹). What TPN brings up in his video is an important question that needs to be asked (and I’m pretty sure someone has brought it up in the discussion on the Revelations episode, but I would love to hear where you stand on this issue). Do you blame Angel for the things that Angelus has done in season 2? For me, Angel and Angelus are two completely different beings and I can’t help it but feel bad for him this episode. But I understand if you don’t and your opinion is totally valid. Anyway, the way you talked about Angel and how he "deserves" it (I know you weren't serious :D), but I would just like to point out that Angel was tortured for hundreds of years in a hell dimension. And now, in this episode he is being hunted by these things . This man can’t catch a break either :D

I love the reaction. I love getting different opinions than my own and don’t get me wrong, it’s not my fave episode but there are reasons i like it a little. Personally, I do feel sorry for Angel. My biggest reason lol is because every time buffy hit Angel first and he hits/bites back, its like hello just because she’s a girl doesn’t make it ok plus shes wayyy stronger than him. I love both of them separately but not together and I will admit as I got older I started to like him more on his show than Buffy but on Buffy I do sympathize with him. I think anyone who has ever hated or been angry with themselves understands. I know he did a lot of evil but he had no soul and he’s been toyed with and threatened by many “bad guys” while he was with his soul to go back to his old ways but for a weak guy, he never goes back. He always resists because he never wants to hurt another person. So yeah decent episode but not a Bangel fan so ehhh but decent episode if you take oug all the lovey dovey, to me at least lol

Yay, Darcie at the gun range with her great hair and 9/10 eyebrows ;) I'm not a big fan of this one apart from Oz being the most mature teenager on the planet (love that), Faith lying badly and then turning up at Buffy's with 'crappy' gifts ;'( and, of course, Rupe and Angel. That moment when he opens the door and freezes, the way he says 'come in' as if he's a cat inviting a mouse inside. This is all the revenge he can get and he's going for it. I'm sure he knows Angel didn't do those things but when he gets emotional all logic is out of the window. I know the meta reason he had to put the cross bow down but my headcanon, in-universe reason is that he realised that he might actually pull the trigger and he'd not be able to look Buffy in the face (after sweeping him up with a dust pan and brush lmao). I mean, like you said, he'd be getting rid of one of the most dangerous beings on the planet. IMO it crossed his mind! And nobody ever seems to talk about Buffy seeing Jenny. How shocking that must have been. The woman who died trying to save her and her lasts words to Jenny were basically 'yes, keep feeling guilty'. Yikes :'( But I really hate they used Jenny in this episode - the woman who spent her last weeks trying to give Angel his soul back. I mean, of course it makes sense but >:( And so we come to The Wish and HOW MUCH I wish she'd been in that episode instead of this because then at least it would have been Jenny, not some evil thing using her image. And we would have seen Rupe and Cal again :'( On the other hand, Giles ending that world thinking the other one has to be better would have broken my heart. :((((((

One of the great disappointments in the episode (aside from the stupid idea that Miracle Snow™ blocks ALL sunlight, the crap job done on the snow itself and Cynthia Bergstrom somehow missing the 9000 "It's so HOT!!" cues in the script and dressing EVERYONE [even the extras] as if it's the first frost) is that exactly NOBODY makes any amends in the episode. Unless you count Willow throwing herself at Perfect! Oz's feet, which infuriates me on a whole other level. (How come Oz doesn't have to discuss what HE might be failing to do for HER? He was perfect and she's just some Xander-humping floozy, is that it? No real communication, just Willow begging and groveling until His Perfectness deigns to forgive her. Because Oz isn't an actual character, he's just a hologram. Or, as someone wiser than I once wrote, "a stick with which to beat Willow". Pass.)

We learn that Angel, big Jerk that he is, hasn't attempted to communicate with Giles AT ALL, even though it's been months. His first thought about "making amends" with Rupe is when Angel needs a favor. Of course it is. And nobody's actually haunting Angel, not Jenny or Daniel or Catherine the housemaid or Travis and his neatly-arranged children (plural, you'll note…Angel killed MULTIPLE kids that night), nah it's just a trick from a Big Giant Evil (that they've never heard of before). So Angel doesn't need to make any amends at all, it seems. Everything's cool and Buffy loves him and needs him and that's all that matters, Joss tells us. F.U., Joss. And the dialog on the cliff is such fanfic-level crap. Short version: ANGEL: I've killed so many people, and I'll probably keep doing it, because the demon is so strong. BUFFY: Wah, wah, wah, what about ME?? I can't chase Scott down again, it would be embarrassing. It's moments like this when I hate both of them so much. (And I largely love Buffy. But she loses all credit when she's in Defender of Innocent Forehead mode. JMO.)

I also hate the faux-retro "W/X/G/Buffy research, just the four of them! It's just like Season 1! Awww!", montage. Partially because nothing gets done (Giles finds the answer on his own, Buffy fights on her own; my two favorite characters are treated as disposable [Willow] or an impediment to Buffy's Happy Cave-Brow Smoochy-Time), but because of the idea that it was wrong to expand the group beyond the original four. I disagree. Cordelia had a place in the group. Jenny had a place in the group. Even Angel had a place in the group. And the few moments when Oz feels like an actual character are when he's working with the group, rather than this "Is Willow Good Enough for Perfect Oz, Blessed Be His Name?" patriarchal shit we have to deal with most of the time. Change is the basic process of life. If we'd stayed with 13 states, they wouldn't even be in Sunnydale. Again, I wouldn't mind it if the reduction to B/W/X/G meant that we ACTUALLY HAD the S1 dynamic back for a bit, but this gauze-filtered pointless montage crap is just Joss trying to take credit for past glories. Which I guess you could say about the whole episode ("Hey, wasn't S2 cool? Remember Jenny?), so that makes this as useless as "Anne", ultimately. 0-2 on the season thus far, Joss. *DO BETTER, PLEASE* . Grrr.

'Does anyone say video' - directly underneath Darcie talking is the quote 'Want to help your business thrive by using video?' lol As someone who used to have VHS tapes, yeah we used to say videos, or we'd say films (rarely movies though, but I am British). We'd say videos because it may be TV shows we'd watch on video too.

One reason to use "videos" is because the store also included a selection of non-fiction instructional tapes; everything from home repair to the famous "Dorf on Golf" series. As these never were broadcast of screened in any other medium, a generic classification was needed.

I’m with you! Angel is my least favorite and I’ve told you this before on YouTube but Cal is my favorite character! Her and Giles together will always be my favorite ship!
