This album STARTED off very strong!! I was very shocked at the direction they were going with the bsides, come ON WAKEONE!

Also I'd just realised Straight line reminds me of Mis-teeq a little, any other brits especially hear this?

As the album went on though it started to lose some steam for me. The vocals could've been more exciting, as could the production. I do love how much attention is on Xiaoting, she DESERVES!

All this to say this album is DEFINITELY a step in the right direction and I'm now interesting in their work as a 7 piece if they maintain more of the mature touches.

Enjoy!

I’m just happy they finally gave bahiyyih lines they was only using her cause of her last name huening 🙄

Neeko

I definitely agree that they are making steps in the right directions and I'm here for the mature Kep1er sound! I think Xiaoting's always been a shared center but they started giving her lines in Galileo and RIGHTFULLY SO.

SyrupEatingPancake

lol I started to lose steam around the same point as well. It felt like they had curated a beautiful mini album and then realised they needed more tracks to fill it out. It's such a shame... A step in the right direction though!

They're going to disband soon, no? In the coming months? I thought this was their last release? I thought this entire project was somewhat exemplary for not merely mismanagement, but the kinds of management that are both perfectly acceptable throughout the industry and very much an expression of the industry of idols itself, i.e. absolutely disinterested in making art or cultivating artists, and churning through people's youths and being at as high a rate as possible without paying much attention to their growth whatsoever; at this point, when sth. actually meaningful gets produced, it's an accident; people working very hard, for very little, to push something through the cracks. It'd surprise me if a majority of people in this team will find good work that sustains them for the future, both materially and artistically. I'll be utterly delighted to be proven wrong by events still unfolding, though.

Shockingly, 7 out of 9 members companies agreed to an extension (we do not know how long for but people are assuming another 2.5 years). So Kep1er will be a 7 member group as of July 16th, 2024.

This comment may come off as a rant so I apologize in advance. I’m not a Kep1er fan but I am a Hiyyih fan so to say I was shocked she along with 6 other members wanted to stay in WakeOne left me frustrated. WakeOne is very open about only using Hiyyih for the Huening part of herself, which has been beyond upsetting. Hiyyih out right saying she hates that her stage name is Huening Bahiyyih, and only wants to be called Hiyyih. Plus, having the most popular member who had the worst hate-train in kpop history be in charge of adlibs only for several albums in a row, and placing her in the back left for every choreography does not help the hate-train. I’m glad she’s getting lines now and can show off that she can sing and has always been able to sing (outside of covers she’s posted) but it’s just beyond frustrating. The thing I don’t understand is that WakeOne has truly waited until their suppose to be disbandment to give them palatable songs. I’m on the same page with you and as we got further into the album I was like, “ahhhh, there is the Kepler I’m use to hearing”. Also, Xiaotings company is the only one to release an announcement about the extension. They are usually really great relaying xiaotings cbar complaints to WakeOne. They said, “Xiaoting wanted to stay with the group and that effort has been made so xiaoting gets more opportunities”. So I’m assuming she’ll be center more than Chaehyun since it’s been happening since Galileo. The behind the scenes recording for shooting star was also released today!

Yes I did mention in my reaction that it'll be interesting seeing where the 7 members will go and grow now as a group.

It's really sooo fascinating, I guess they have to weigh out their options and realised they probably had better chances of success together than separate and competing against each other. Hopefully they renegotiated some better terms for the next contract. Yess I saw, I'll definitely film it soon.

Regenherz

That's why I asked, yeah! It makes a lot of sense to extend their contract; they're making money and their original companies probably want to maintain that arrangement until they're ready to debut their own projects; getting capital is probably particularly difficult at the moment, after the last few years. I'm still skeptical of whether that's going to translate into artistic growth and them getting to express themselves better in the future, though. Anything could happen, I guess. We'll know when the next album hits.
