"Wait, are you serious?" Emily whined, crossing her arms.

Kayla chuckled, which only made Emily more upset, furrowing her brow; that, in turn, earned another laugh from her roommate. "Sorry, sorry," she shook her head. "You're just too cute when you're mad!"

Emily couldn't say that was what she wanted to hear, though she supposed it was fair, considering the way she was dressed... Or, rather, half-dressed, literally, wearing a cute top and a diaper, an array of skirts laid out on her bed that she had been in the middle of trying to choose between when her roommate had made her announcement.

"Why aren't you coming?" she pouted. "You said you would!"

"I know I did," Kayla sighed, and, for a moment, Emily felt bad. Somewhat unsurprisingly, after the summer they'd spent together, Emily was more and more certain Kayla saw her as a little sister, more than a roommate. There was definitely something nice about that, something comforting, but it also gave Emily a bit of power she hadn't meant to wield against the other girl.

"You don't have to," Emily conceded. It might not feel like it, especially lately; she was an adult, however, didn't have to have Kayla accompany her everywhere, and she didn't want to guilt her into doing it. "I just thought..."

Kayla shrugged. "I had something come up, and since Lainey was already going..."

Much as Emily hated to admit it, that was part of the problem. She liked Lainey, and the girl, at the very least, deserved her trust for not having told anyone, that Emily could tell, about her little secret after classes had started back up... And she'd seen plenty that would make for some juicy gossip if she'd wanted to. Being alone with Lainey, though, was still awkward. If Kayla was her big sister, Lainey was more a babysitter, someone she looked up to, to a degree, but who just couldn't quite compare. Kayla had been in on this from the start, basically, and Lainey was a far more recent interloper who Emily wasn't used to having involved.

Then again, she never would be if Emily didn't give her a chance. And, as often as she told herself she was going to do that, she never did, not without Kayla there as a buffer. This had all been Lainey's idea in the first place, after all, so it was only right she come along.

Emily wanted to ask what had come up, what was preventing Kayla from going with them, but she kept her mouth shut. It wasn't really any of her business... She couldn't help wondering if Kayla had been planning this all along, however, if she had been waiting for Emily to get out of their room for some reason, maybe to invite someone over who she didn't want to see Emily, to know that her roommate wore diapers...

To a certain point, Emily knew that was silly. Kayla had been handed a perfect opportunity to ditch her when it was time to choose their roommates for this year, and she hadn't taken it. And it wasn't like they were actually sisters, so there was no real connection between them, no need for her to feel embarrassed by her, other than the fact that she had, indeed, chosen to continue sharing a room with her, but that was easy enough to lie about, or claim Emily had begged her to do it...

She didn't know that was what was happening at all, though, or if there was another justification for Kayla staying behind. If Kayla wasn't volunteering the information, she supposed she just wasn't going to know one way or the other. And, even if she didn't like that, it was fine.

"You'll have fun!" Kayla assured her, giving her a hug, and a pat on the bottom. "You should wear that one." She picked up one of the skirts, handing it to Emily.

Emily almost wanted to say no, and choose a different one, but as soon as Kayla said it, she knew the girl was right. "I was leaning in that direction anyway," she claimed, taking the garment and stepping into it.

"Well, you have good taste, then," Kayla smiled, adjusting the skirt around her friend's waist without a second thought. "Adorable."

Lainey seemed to feel the same when she arrived, complimenting Emily on her outfit before peeking at the tiny purse she'd chosen to take with her. "You fit a spare in there?" she asked, sounding impressed.

Emily blushed, shook her head. "I-I don't think I'll need a change before we get back," she said.

Lainey and Kayla exchanged a look. "Better safe than sorry, though, right?" Kayla raised an eyebrow. Emily started to open her mouth, then closed it. She was supposed to need her diapers, which meant she really wouldn't know for sure... "Here, it looks like you have more room," Kayla handed a spare diaper and a travel-sized bottle of baby powder to Lainey, who slipped it into her own purse, only amplifying the babysitter vibes. "Have fun, you two!"

The mall wasn't too far, but long enough that Emily's silence, unsure of what to say to Lainey while they were by themselves, was noticed. "You aren't nervous, are you?" Lainey asked. "I promise, it's no big deal!"

"I-I know!" Emily blurted out, quickly enough to make it seem like Lainey had hit a nerve, that she'd stumbled upon the truth, whether that was the case or not. Perhaps it was, to a degree... If Kayla had been there, however, she doubted Lainey would have picked up on it. She would have been talking to Kayla instead, and Emily would have sat in the back seat and listened, or Emily and Kayla would have spoken... Now, there was no distraction from her saying nothing, from her squirming in the front seat next to Lainey, diaper rustling.

She shouldn't be scared... That was confirmed as they went into the mall, Lainey checking, "Do you want to go straight there, or...?" and Emily nodding, letting herself be led right to the ear piercing stand, seeing the little girl sitting in the chair, another being led away happily, mother swatting her hands away from poking at her new jewelry. If they could handle it, so could she...

Couldn't she? She was undeniably older than them... Was she more mature, though? They probably weren't in diapers, and if they were, it wasn't by choice...

"You don't have to do it if you don't want," Lainey told her. "I could see if I could find a clip-on version of the earrings..."

"No," Emily shook her head, gritting her teeth. "I'm going to do it."

She did want to have her ears pierced, and had for a long time. And she did want to prove that she could do it, now, to show Lainey that she wasn't as much of a baby as she might seem, no matter what she'd seen from her, on more than one occasion.

If Kayla had asked her that question, Emily mused as they got into line, would she have answered the same way? She did want Kayla to think of her as a big girl, to some degree, especially if her fears were founded, and Kayla was embarrassed of her... It wasn't the same as with Lainey, however.

"Hi, there!" the worker smiled at her, using what Emily was positive was the same tone she had with the little girl she'd just finished with. "Is this your first time?"

"Uh-huh," Emily nodded.

"How exciting!" the worker exclaimed. "You're going to love them so much!"

She hoped so... She would have loved to start with the bow earrings Lainey had given her, that had started this all off, but instead she picked out a pair of plain, silver stars, trying her best not to fidget too much as she watched them being loaded into the piercing gun, blushing as she felt her diaper growing warm beneath her. Her eyes darted to Lainey, who was immediately at her side, taking her hand as the worker slid the gun onto Emily's earlobe, and...

"I can't believe that was it!" Emily chirped. "That's what I was avoiding for so long?"

"I told you it wouldn't be bad," Lainey chuckled. "And you were so brave! I think you need a cookie!"

Emily rolled her eyes. "It wasn't that big of a deal," she said, though she couldn't resist. "But I wouldn't say no..."

"Who would?" Lainey asked, leading her to the cookie stand, letting her pick out the biggest one there and paying for it, and her own, slightly more modestly-sized one that, somehow, she was still working on finishing up after Emily had devoured all of hers, as they window-shopped various other stores.

It was difficult to state for sure if it said more about how comfortable Emily was getting with Lainey, or how comfortable she was getting with using her diaper fully - something she'd been doing far more since the summer, to the point where she couldn't recall for certain when the last time she'd used the toilet was, only that it had been several weeks, at least - that, when she felt a pressure in her tummy, she didn't give a second thought to pushing, nor did it particularly bother her afterwards, until Lainey whispered, "Umm... Emily? Are you...?"

"Oh!" Emily's face lit up, recognizing suddenly where she was, how little privacy she had in the middle of the store. "S-Sorry, I..."

"No!" Lainey shook her head. "I know it isn't your fault!"

Except, it was, wasn't it? She may have made the choice subconsciously, in a fraction of a second, but she had made it... Just like she'd made the choice to start using her diapers for this more often. Now, however, her choices had vanished, as her attempts to stop it short, the limit the damage, were ignored, her body determined to finish what it had started.

"It's okay," Lainey told her, stepping in front of her, shielding her from view as much as possible. "It's a good thing I brought that spare along, though, huh?"

"Spare what?"

Emily froze, heart stopping for a moment at the sound of Angel's voice. This couldn't be happening... But, of course, carelessly allowing herself to do this in the middle of the mall, it wasn't a huge shock that somebody would see it... She just hadn't expected it to be another of Kayla's friends, one of the other girls she'd shared the house with. She mentally begged her bowels to quit, only to hear another grunt escape her mouth, her knees bending more, sending her into more of a squat as her diaper continued to expand.

"Oh, my God," Angel giggled, lifting a hand to her mouth.

"I-It's not what it looks like!" Lainey blurted out.

"Yes, it is," Angel smirked. "I came over to say hi because I saw you two, and I see Emily here doing exactly the same thing I've seen my baby brother do a thousand times. You're filling your diaper, aren't you?"

"Hey!" Lainey scolded. "Not so loud! And it isn't her fault, she has..."

"Y-You knew?" Emily interrupted. Angel didn't sound surprised in the least, just amused at her timing.

"Like I said, I have a little brother," Angel shrugged. "I know the signs... Plus, I saw you guys at the roller rink, and knew something was up.And I did poke around the garbage a little to try to find out how it was filling up so quickly all the time, and when I saw a diaper in there, you were the most likely candidate."

Emily blushed. "I-I was?"

"You can't tell anybody," Lainey hissed. "Kayla is going to be so mad I let this happen..."

"I won't," Angel rolled her eyes. "But if we don't get her cleaned up soon, other people are going to be able to tell anyway."

"O-Oh, I can..." Emily began to protest.

"She can finish up in the bathroom," Angel took Emily by the hand, yanking her away, Lainey rushing after them. Angel led Emily right into the stall, giving her no choice in the matter.

"I-I can do it myself," Emily told her.

"Yeah, I'm sure you could," Angel replied. "It'll be easier if I handle it. Don't worry, I'm used to it."

Lainey glanced at Emily, who, cheeks red, gave her a nod. It was embarrassing, certainly, but she didn't want to go against Angel, to give her a reason to change her mind and go blabbing... And she did like the idea of not having to deal with it herself.

Lainey sighed, taking the diaper out of her purse and handing it over to Angel. Emily could see it happen, could spot the moment Angel's eyes grew slightly, her stance shifting.

"Wow," Angel said, closing the stall door, not that it would prevent Lainey, outside, from hearing, no matter how soft her voice was. "These are so big... And so soft..."

"Yeah," Emily smiled, confident now Angel wasn't going to be spilling her secret. "They are, aren't they? Do you want to try one sometime?"

Angel shook her head, face glowing red. "N-No, of course not!" she exclaimed, but Emily recognized that look in her eye... It was, she was positive, the same one she'd had for so long when she thought about this, back before she'd come to college.

Emily might not be the only baby here it seems.
