According to the Hornady ballistics calculator, a 36 yard zero works well with .308, and seems to work with basically anything with a similar muzzle velocity, BC, and sight height over bore. It won't work well with AKs because the 7.62x39 is too slow and fat. They have a unique zero procedure.
