With Oushi, I think it's both, he is being overprotective of Yuki due to how he feels about her. The stare down that takes place later is a clear sign of this I feel. Also in Episode 1 we see him looking for her at the very end and he tries to play it off.

I also have a hard time appreciating overprotective people but it just makes you wonder how much protection is "enough" for every kind of disability, not sure if there is a definitive answer to that and that makes me very interested in how this show will tackle those kind of subjects (if it does)

Yeah the problem with any kind of disability is that there's different levels to it, so people need different care based off of that factor and you also have to factor in their own opinion on the matter as well. Just a very complicated topic to work around and find a solution.
