Yeah this one looks like it will be an emotional roller coaster, interested to see where all it will go. The couple translation points, when he called her "weird" he said "kawatteru" which does mean unusual/uncommon/peculiar/eccentric/different so weird isn't too far off. And yeah when she gives him a handkerchief in return he says "suki da yo" which means "I like you/it". It's common in Japanese to not say the parts that can be understood by context, so the sentence by itself isn't clear what it is that he likes. I think the subtitle tried to convey the potential for misunderstanding by saying "I'm in love" which I think is a valid interpretation of the sentence itself.
