Greetings adventurers!

The best thing one can do is remove themselves from their emotions for a moment of time and try to look at things from the perspective of someone with little skin in the game. The world trends towards peace if you allow it to and I am a firm believer in finding diplomatic solutions wherever possible. I was approached by an elder statesman a few years prior and he presented to me a box. Something that had been given to him by a friend, but he said he would no longer be needing. After a bit of back and forth, we agreed upon a price and he set off on his way. I heard of his retirement the next day. When I looked upon what had been given to me, I knew that I needed to find the right buyer for this precious peaceful trinket.

Our patrons get early access to all of these items as well as additional formats that are easily usable in both physical and online play for D&D and Pathfinder 2E. Additionally they get high-res art exports, easy to use text exports, behind the scenes updates, and a lot more.

Design notes from Matthew:

There’s a lot of folks making things out there that are perfect for combat, and that’s fine! We do a lot of that as well here, but sometimes I think that diplomatic solutions could use a bit more time to shine in these games we play. Ultimately conflict defines a lot of the fantasy TTRPG game time, but conflict doesn’t have to be physical, nor does it have to involve weaponry. I wanted to show that there’s a possibility for conflict to possibly be reset and explore what would happen if we gave players time to talk instead.

Something interesting to me is the idea of a magic item that you can’t just take off when you want. We did something like this with the Phoenix loop way back in the day and I wanted to approach that idea again. Basically I wanted to create something that gives you a “permanent” buff until that desperate moment of need whenever you decide it’s worth trading that away for a powerful, but momentary benefit. I think that creates interesting decisions that your players will have to grapple with should you give them this.

When it comes to the actual spells at play here, I wanted to make sure that it was clear that this kind of halted things where they were for a moment. I had to include a bit of language ensuring that “hostile” actions wouldn’t turn this potential moment into something useless. Also just getting the level of the spell right for PF2E was a bit of a task. I think we landed in a good place though where this item is obviously powerful without being a game over button. One of the best things you can do for balance is hooking into things that are already in the game like spells!

I always love getting the opportunity to make something that isn’t just combat benefits. Moving the game into social spaces is something that I’m passionate about at my own tables and there are often several weeks without initiative being rolled. This kind of item is for those GMs like me who love to make sure there’s some political intrigue still afoot.

We highly encourage you to join our Discord server where you’ll get access to exclusive channels that have sneak peeks, behind the scenes chatter, and more.
