Greetings adventurers!

There is a massive world out there and some of the people in it frankly scare me. It seems that someone, through means I don’t dare to speculate on, has manifested a massive, musclebound ram that does their siege bidding for them. It’s hardly something I could believe when I first saw it, and I was even in more awe when the beast was actually felled. The helmet custom crafter for it proved a difficult material to work with, but in the end I was able to form something a bit more suited to the average cranium. I even managed to keep some of the beast’s magics in it.

Our patrons get early access to all of these items as well as additional formats that are easily usable in both physical and online play for D&D and Pathfinder 2E. Additionally they get high-res art exports, easy to use text exports, behind the scenes updates, and a lot more.

If that strikes your fancy, consider becoming a Patron

Design notes from Matthew:

There’s a general rule that I keep for myself when writing new magic items and that rule is simple. I must be able to read the item and picture a cool moment in my game. That’s the cutoff for me. If I can’t picture something cool being done with it, then I know that I didn’t make an interesting enough item. This can often happen if everything on it is too standard or too passive. There needs to be activity with an item that makes it feel less like it’s just some passive bonuses and more that you can do something with it.

This item was a perfect example of starting with that active idea and I think that leads to a much stronger development cycle. I knew from the start that I wanted this item to have this cool moment where you go charging forward, bowling people out of the way and knocking them around. That was the base of it and if you can start with a strong base like that you’re going to end up with a much better item in the end.

One thing I do want to mention, when you’re talking about designing for 5E you have to be careful with a condition as insanely strong as stunned. There’s a reason I left it off of the 5E version and instead opted for damage and a push. You can be a little more liberal with it in PF2E as the condition itself doesn’t negate an entire turn. Think about relative power when you design your items. It does a lot for me.

This is our last item of July as next week we’ll be releasing a new creation on the 1st of August. That means you also get a new creature coming later on today and I think you’re going to enjoy this one. It’s a bit silly yet terrifying at the same time. I love striking that balance when we can.

We highly encourage you to join our Discord server where you’ll get access to exclusive channels that have sneak peeks, behind the scenes chatter, and more.
