Hey all! Apologies for the delayed update, there will be a delivery this month! But everything I mentioned in the last update will be skipped for next delivery, because I ended up switching tracks the past month or so. If what I plan to deliver isn’t of interest to you, and this isn’t your first month supporting this page, then let me know and I’ll refund you. I’ll likely be delivering the content this coming weekend, so just send me a message before then.

I have gone back to the original DGA animation and remastered it, as you have no doubt seen from the cover picture here. It was a ton of work but I was inspired >.> Despite me making next to no new content, it is significantly longer than the original, and will have new audio made for it over the coming month(s). I set myself clear goals and boundaries when doing this:

  • No new content from scratch; everything has to have an existing base.

  • Each shot would be widescreen. The camera and animations would need to be modified and edited to properly frame the existing action.

  • Renamon would be animated in each shot. However her role would remain the point of reference, so the animation needed to remain simple.

  • I would include the animations for the ‘lost shots’ in the first animation. (there was a 5+ second patch of animation I never completed for the first animation, in between the cuts that currently happen at the 21 second mark. If you ever felt there was a step up in size there; there was.)

  • Have the animation play at the proper frame rate, and include the bookend frames. (most of the shots in the original animation were playing at 30fps instead of 24, because I didn’t know what I was doing until AFTER audio was made for it. The bookend frames were the first and last frames I had to cut in every single shot as the camera positions were making motion blur smear them, so every shot is a fraction of a second shorter than I intended)

  • Switch the Andre rig to the new one, mainly to lay the groundwork for a VR experience at a future date.

  • Remove the ‘cheats’ in between cuts. (i.e, DONT shrink Andre in between shots, keep Andre in more or less the same position, and keep the environment pieces such as the trees in the same spot from start to end.) Mainly to lay the groundwork for a VR experience at a future date.

  • MINOR improvements, or ‘coat of paint’ to the animations themselves (i.e, get those balls swinging), and replacing the shots that were already remade/improved in the early iteration of the remake.

  • Stitch them all together in the one scene that can play from beginning to end. Mainly to lay the groundwork for a VR experience at a future date.

The end result? Between adding the missing shots, playing the animation at the right speed and adding back the bookend frames, as well as retiming some of the later shots to make Andre feel heavier, (and stitching in two extra shots because I can’t help myself), the first animation has increased its length from 42 seconds, to 94 seconds. Andre is also MUCH bigger. And… how do I put this, a wee bit friskier.

I am pretty happy with where it ended up… it's certainly familiar, but there is enough there that it’s a surprisingly new experience. Hopefully you guys agree when you see it!

Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns about this!
