IMPACT Wrestling's World Heavyweight Champion Steve Maclin joined Lars Frederiksen and Dennis Farrell of Fightful's The Wrestling Perspective Podcast this week. Maclin talked to the guys on numerous topics.

Maclin talked about Josh Alexander's injury; he said it sucks that it happened, but that's business. He does wish he could have beaten IMPACT's longest-reigning champion in their hometown of Toronto. Maclin also mentioned the relinquishment of the title went down perfectly with Scott D'Amore, Josh's son Jet and his wife Jen (Jade Chung) in the ring and the emotion they showed. He mentioned how it added another layer to the story.

When asked who Maclin leaned on when it came to navigating the waters from WWE to the Indies, he said his wife, Deonna. Steve talked about how she made a name for herself before she signed with the WWE. He said that she had been the backbone through all of it. Maclin also mentioned that in their household, "it's wrestling 24/7." He said that he and Deonna throw ideas constantly at each other.

He talked about his military background; he takes his character from Captain America, and when Maclin goes rogue, he bases it on The Punisher.

Maclin commented if you're in the wrestling business, you should be wanting to be the champion. That's what he was going for when he made it to IMPACT.

Maclin said working in the X Division allowed him to show people he could adapt to anyone and work any style. He also said the X division allowed people to see who he was, his work rate, and what he could do.

He talked about being grateful for his time in the WWE because they taught him how to work television. Maclin said he came into IMPACT with the experience already in-hand while many people were still learning. He mentioned some individuals like Danny Cage, Blue Meanie, QT Marshall, and Dusty Rhodes.

In addition, Maclin mentioned that he and Damian Priest were training at The Monster Factory at the same time under Danny Cage. He said that he loves being at IMPACT; he gets to be himself there.

The Wrestling Perspective Podcast will be available on Youtube and your favorite Podcast streaming platform on Monday, May 15th, at 9 AM EST.
