Adam Cole still doesn't have a long-term contract with WWE, and hasn't been offered one yet as Fightful revealed recently. However, we've learned more about the situation that led to where the two sides are now. Upon learning that Cole's deal was up, WWE gained a verbal agreement with Cole. We're told shortly after that he actually did sign a short-term extension to through Summerslam weekend. Until this, we'd not had confirmation he'd put pen to paper on the extension.

The sources we've spoken to said that Adam Cole maintains a positive relationship with those at the top of NXT, and there's a lot of mutual respect there.

i can’t help but think that the short term extension means he’s ready to head out

I get the impression he’s staying

If he stays, I hope he gets a huge contract from WWE. Use their fear of him going to AEW against them. If not, than he should just go to AEW. Tony will probably give him a really good contract.

Is there any doubt that Summerslam will happen at Vegas?

Lotta respect

Anonymous

SRS I heard that him and Britt have a desire to down their own thing. Do you know if that’s genuine?

Anonymous

I feel like there might not be a whole lot more for him to accomplish in NXT.

Anonymous

I hope he gets PAID no matter where he goes. That being said, he’s honestly run out of things to do in NXT. I know HHH and HBK love him but they can’t save him if a new contract means he gets called up. And who knows, maybe he’ll defy the odds and be a huge success. But as long as the old man is still in charge, those odds are really against him.

From the sounds of it this could really go either way but does give more of a vibe of him leaving.

I'm an AEW stooge, so take this with a grain of salt, but I can't imagine how anyone can look at what's going on in WWE and what they are doing to talent and that anyone would want to stick around for that.

Anonymous

Wouldn’t it be smart to sign a Extension with WWE right now because AEW signed so many people right now I’m afraid he’ll get lost in shuffle if he sign same time as Punk, Bryan, Flair, Braun and Wyatt…. Just feel he should wait like a year and have his Big Appearance. What do you guys think?

Anonymous

Nah I don’t think he will get lost in the shuffle. In fact, with the on screen story of the Bucks super kicking him out of the elite I can picture more him siding with Hangman and being a babyface.

Hilariously enough, I think the first thing that should be on everyone's mind if Cole leaves is "how the heck are they gonna resurrect him?"

What I’m trying to say is I would like Adam Cole to have the spotlight all to himself…. You know if he signs with them at the same time as all those guys it’s not going to be as good… maybe I’m saying it wrong I just thing with Punk, Wyatt and Bryan there while Black and Christian are having their runs.. is it to much right now maybe save it for a big pay per view down the line next year?

Anonymous

Maybe cole it having seconds thoughts and is seeing how the main roster is treating nxt talent if that has anything to do with it

Ask Braun & Bray how much those big contracts are really worth

This is really interesting. As someone that works, and does relatively well in a larger organisation, I’ll often get encouraging noises from other “smaller” companies and they’ll appear to be doing the right things but the incentive isn’t *quite* enough to take me away from my comfort blanket. I think my best friends helping run the business would get me to leave - but my childhood hero helping me for my incumbent employer would certainly make me think twice. Such a unique situation. From a fan POV, I hope he jumps - but his mind is probably all over the place atm.

A guy with his drive and confidence and boyhood dream of making it in WWE i can understand why he'd want to stay, an if it was a Hunter lead WWE he totally should as he's a hunter guy. But Vince has shown he simply doesn't fancy him as a main roster guy, thus hes either stuck in NXT or become a mid card guy on the main roster at best, and the dude deserves so much more - hes a top title guy wherever he works. Really interesting in what the guy chooses.

Here’s my take and this is completely my opinion as I obviously don’t know the guy I think making him the only NXT guy in the virtual meet and greets 4 days before his contract runs out could be a sign that they’re at least confident he’ll stick around. Judging from comments, it doesn’t appear as if his wife working for AEW is a deal breaker. If NXT hadn’t landed on USA, he’d probably be on the main roster by now If I was him, I would sign one of those deals that WWE was rumored to have offered Cody and the Bucks before AEW was formed. Offer him a deal with an opt out clause(I think Rey had one as well) after 12-18 months. If he’s not happy then he can leave. Between Cole and Pete Dunne, I’m more confident in Dunne sticking around but I’d rather them keep Cole because I think his mic skills and character could win people over who aren’t necessarily keen on his size. At the same time, I’m fairly confident they’ll keep at least one but I’m about 60-65% confident they’ll keep both. I just don’t see as many outside factors pulling Dunne in the other direction as I do Cole. At the end of the day, I’m 85% confident they’ll keep at least one. I don’t see them losing both around the same time. Again, purely my opinion

Any word on if the extension kept the 90 day non-compete clause? What happens if they cut him before the extension ends?

Joel Wood

If the extension ends after Summerslam weekend, it would be pretty difficult to do that considering he’s scheduled for Takeover 36 which takes place the Saturday after Summerslam. I think so anyway

Rob Wilkins

Scott- When the contract is up it’s up, he would not have to wait 90 Days in this case. Joel Takeover is the next night (Sunday)

Joel Wood

I mean to say Sunday. I don’t know where the hell my mind was at. My bad.
