Cardona noted that Vince McMahon originally rejected Curt Hawkins' New York Jets themed-WrestleMania 35 gear, as wrestlers had to submit their gear ahead of time for approval. Cardona and Myers got a meeting with Vince to get it approved, and also pitch them winning the tag titles, which Cardona says he didn't like. McMahon did approve the gear, and a few days later someone else called Cardona and Myers to tell them they'd be winning the titles at WrestleMania

I kind of understand why gear has to be pre approved, but it’s still dumb that gear has to be pre approved 😂

Talent has to get approval for just about anything that changes their look (tattoos, changing hair style/color, gear) because of the licensing deals, specifically for the action figures and (to a lesser extent) video games. The latter isn't as big of a concern because they can always add outfits and new looks via DLC purchases.
