A major WWE contract was expiring recently in that of former NXT Champion Adam Cole.

Wrestling Inc reported that Cole's deal is up after Summerslam, and that it had been an extension following Great American Bash. There was an assumption internally that Cole's WWE contract expired in December, but WWE sources have reached out and noted that they became aware that the deal was actually up in early July, which came as a surprise to many at the top of the company as they only realized shortly before the expiration of the deal. Despite that, we're told that Adam Cole expressed to WWE that he was willing to work through Summerslam weekend and re-evaluate things. WWE sources put over Cole for being open to doing that as opposed to just appearing on another program without any notice by WWE. We were not told it if was a verbal agreement or if he signed a short-term extension.

There was once word within WWE that Cole had actually signed a new deal when the USA Network agreement came to be, but that was not the case, despite the internal rumors. We're told there was significant frustration and heat within the company that this came so close to the wire, but WWE sources again put over Cole for being easy to deal with.

Dude is this the domino effect you anticipated after the last batches of releases?

SRS with them scoops.

Well if he loses at Takeover.. chances are he's gone from NXT and if he isn't on Raw or Smackdown after that, he's going to join his g/f and best friends in AEW.

I guess I’m the only one who wanted him to stay in NXT. Amazing work there, maybe nothing more to do, but he resembles the brand and I love NXT. Plus love his work on upupdowndown so don’t want that jeopardized!

You know if WWE were smart they would use this situation getting out as a way to try and tap into the pipe bomb magic and have Cole and maybe a few talents that are signed but haven’t been confirmed by the company wreck havoc across Raw and NXT. Make him some sort of NXT Revolution figure not just against main roster but Triple H/Regal as well for letting talented people go to slaughter on main. However, that would have to take concerted planning and someone not ripping everything up or being closed minded about someone’s size.

Seriously I don't know what is going on with upper management in WWE. Maybe this is their plan...to choke AEW into bankruptcy by allowing such great talent to go there.

AEW is business #4 for the Khans, Vince isn't going to bankrupt someone richer than him. These guys own a soccer team and football. All 3 can fail and it's nothing compared to their family business, which will print money into the day no one decides to use metals.

Angel “The New Guy” Gonzalez

Elite: "Dude... I thought you were dead!" Cole: "I know a Doctor" Or your favorite line... haha Seriously though, I wouldn't see him leaving save for everything that has happened over the past few months with the talent releases. He deserves Smackdown position (from a quality standpoint, not the booking side) so I wonder what he would choose. Either way, I support the guy.

Anything could happen. I think him willing to work through Summerslam says a lot. He could’ve easily let his contract run out and go to AEW to be with Britt. He’s obviously a loyal guy so hopefully he gets rewarded for that loyalty. Time will tell

I have to say if Im Adam Cole assuming AEW would offer him decent money amd in fact this goes for almost all big names in wwe whose contracts are coming up id seriously be thinking unless Vinny Mac is offering life changing money would i be better off elsewhere? Wwe seems more toxic than ever from a workplace standpoint. They have under estimated the anger at Wyatts release & in all honesty from a finacial and creative POV to someone like Cole how could AEW not being very tempting? Great money, travel with Mrs, best pals are EVPs, ready made stories with The Elite & remain on network television plus get to potentially work with likes of Sting, Punk, Danielson etc WWE better hope they have a plan cos Cena be going back to Hollywood soon & they already repeat matches/lack creativity at best of times. I only watched Raw for Bray hopefully popping up & a handful of other talents, was already down to clips rather than full show its that incohesive, SDL is good more than its bad but they have GOT to build some new stars cos people are sick of likes of Goldberg and Adam Cole is somebody who can be a STAR almost instantly on SDL, Wyatt was an attraction who moved hella merch & they got rid so surely NOBODY IS SAFE!! Anyway rant over, Cole to AEW confirmed lol

David Pick

I’m not discounting them throwing silly money at Cole but: - Hes backstage at AEW whenever possible - His girlfriend is there - His best friends are there (and help run the company) - He *knows* he’ll be featured well there from the off (he could plug n play into the Elite/Page story or be a fuse light for the bubbling Bullet Club/Elite story) Of course he will always be featured in NXT and used well there but Vince has made it abundantly clear that is developmental these days. And I can’t see a path in the main roster where he gets used well. This is the chance for him to get out. Surely.

Chris Sully

I hope he runs for the AEW hills, for sure honour a contract tie up loose ends etc but Vince has made it abundantly clear NXT is developmental in his eyes after the 'ratings war loss'. Any 'big money' contract isn't worth the paper its written on cause you could be 'Future Endeavoured' at the drop of a hat due to "Budget Cuts". At this point its like the movie Get Out, only fans are the ones screaming GET OUT of this hypnotic hellscape of a company!!!

Thomas wallk

I want to see him go to aew

SlickRob

How TF did WWE not know the length of the contract for the most important person on NXT?! Is this another case of John Laurinaitis screwing up?

Jose Bautista

WAIT so if it expires that means no 90 days, right? So you're telling us we have a chance to get ADAM COLE BAYBAY at All Out 👀👀

Damian Bushay

Even though he’s been treated like a God in NXT, he should leave. They’re NOT going to use him right on the main roster. Anyone who thinks so is lying to themselves. And he’s done everything he can do on NXT anyways to the point where he’s been stale. Time to jump ship.

Sal

Probably not the case, but how awesome would it be if Cole ended up being the added protection Britt referenced last week on Dynamite? Likely not, but dreamers can dream, right?

Anonymous

Cole has done everything he can in NXT and he'd be bonkers to go to the main roster and just get buried right away

Michael Grooms

It's main roster or bust right now for Adam Cole after Takeover.

Richman

I wonder how much his bay bay has influence on his decision

Anonymous

Will he be able to use the Adam Cole name outside of WWE?

e d

well if he does decide to stay around, i hope he sticks it to them with an ironclad contract that they cant fuck him over on because they will try to like they do to everyone else. Guaranteed, no cut, no non compete, creative control, no main roster call up, all while keeping his twitch channel.

Michael Adams

WWE'S front office people should set Fightful's contract page as their homepage.

Dave Snell

I can’t see him on the main roster in WWE but I think he would be great on AEW. His size wouldn’t be an issue there. And he could be on tv to what I would assume is a bigger audience than NXT.
