On June 7th, Javier Bernal announced on his Twitch stream following the dates episode of NXT Level Up that he had suffered a broken foot and would require surgery, revealing he could be out of action for up to six months with the injury.

Fightful Select’s Corey Brennan has learned more details on the injury and other backstage details on Bernal’s time in WWE so far. During Friday’s episode of NXT Level Up, Javi would feature in a tag team match vs Chase U, with the injury occurring on a dive to the outside of the ring by Riley Osborne in which Javi’s leg would buckle. Brennan is told that Javi did not return to his feet without the aid of the referee and his tag team partner  Drake Morreaux’s help following the match's conclusion.

We have not heard if this decision altered the finish of the matchup, but in asking around with NXT sources, we did not hear of any internal heat directed at Osborne for the injury, with those we spoke to viewing it as nothing more than an accident.

Bernal debuted on WWE programming back in January of 2022, and has since then been a common face on NXT and NXT Level Up since. In speaking with WWE talent who have worked with Bernal throughout his time in NXT, with those we spoke to describing Javi as a talent who is committed to his character work and ‘nothing but professional’ in his dealings with other NXT talent sources. One source on WWE’s developmental brand noted their belief that Bernal will ‘pick up where he left off’ upon his return down the road.
