my body jumped fr it feels like i just returned to 2020, i’m super excited!! i am sat with my snacks and ginger ale ready to watch! this show is what really solidified me becoming a deobi/the b (the boyz fandom name).

kali

also i just paused so idk if you noticed earlier, but the mc is lee dahee, not boa here! but i definitely agree her judging would fit way more here than on swf. (edit: LOL you just said it as i hit play again)!

I could be wrong but I think they are saying “T-O-O” like the letters, my understanding is that the o and the u sound are just more similar in korean pronounciation! I do not know a lot about the scoring system moving forward, and I think there might be some upsets in your future, but I’m so excited to see your perspective! It’s so fun to see you’re reactions and it’s also so nice to see how relaxed you are and how much fun you’re having!

I love the camaraderie between the groups as contestants. 😭 It's definitely why I loved Queendom 2019 too - it was just like a festival full of special performances rather than pure competition. (It's also my personal dislike of survival shows in general to be fair, I get so stressed by rankings and eliminations.) ETA: Everyone clowning on my favs ONEUS was so funny. 🤣

I actually also agreed with you on top 2 - The Boyz really felt like a whole other level as a PERFORMANCE. TOO just delivered such a complete and *cool* package of dance and singing that I wish others did too. I'm surprised they got ranked 7th, I thought maybe they'd maybe even give more hype to them since they're the rookies there but it makes sense what you said about not wanting to rank a group with more seniority under a younger one. 😅

Love that you're reacting to this show, it has some of my favorite competition show stages I've seen from kpop. I think with TOO, seniority and expectations play a huge role in where they rank. Since they're soooo new, the other groups don't have expectations for their performances for them to exceed yet, as opposed to a group like Pentagon who can surprise the groups by flipping expectations. There is more self-ranking throughout the show and something I've learned is that boy group idols really seem to favor an Intense/Dark Concept over other types of concepts. One thing that stands out to me for The Boyz is their use of the camera and the RTK stage, they really go above and beyond in how they block their performances. (Also, this huge set was built just before COVID when the show was originally supposed to have a live audience. They had to pause production during the beginning of COVID and re-tool some of the aspects of the show and then actually began filming in April 2020.)

as a pentagon stan i have suchhhh a strong love-hate relationship with this show lmao. so just a few notes: they debuted in 2016 which was when dancing only just started becoming a main focus of idol groups, so kino is the /only/ member of pentagon who is really considered a dancer. individually he's one of if not the strongest dancer on the show and definitely a great choreographer (he was on be mbitious if youre planning to check it out soon!), but he harddddd carries pentagon's dancing. it also doesn't help that his style's a lot more loose and groovy, which is really disadvantageous for an idol competition show where the people watching can only really judge based on cleanliness and tightness. they're also extremely vocal/stage acting focused which is why they're the only group that performs live every single round, and to accommodate that the intensity of their choreo is even more limited because... their songs are also notoriously difficult + they love doing crazy adlibs LMAO. tldr; unless live singing matters to you, their performances probably aren't going to be as interesting for you as the groups who were able to center their stages around their dancers

As long as I keep a cool head and an open mind I should be vibing and thriving haha! I really hope they don't place these boys in TOO bad of positions for what they accomplished performance wise.... I don't know how much of THAT i could handle... But I have you guys to support me haha

JessReacts764

I LOVED that part and the PHONE CALLS killed meeeeee.... So funny and I love that we get to see them as people who KNOW each other and are friends... Love to see that human side!!

JessReacts764

It surprised me but knowing how shows like this work it didn't shock me too much.. I hope that we get some better performance rankings in the future but I know that may not be happening haha

JessReacts764

Ah!!! That makes so much more sense! Not gonna lie, but I really like how it's just the groups here with no audience because I feel they are more comfortable with their interactions which I prefer honestly! Very excited for the next episode!

JessReacts764

So interesting that they are the only group to go live 100%... Wouldn't that be a criteria that should have been added for a kpop boy group show like this? I don't know how I feel about that not being a clarified front and everyone having to be on even playing field with that...

JessReacts764

Thank you for letting me know about Pentagon's group because that will help me shape my feedback more effectively!! I think I will definitely be enjoying their stages regardless if they are as "grand" as others! ESPECIALLY if they are singing live!

hayun lee

the live singing is definitely why i enjoy them a lot, and i def agree it should be something to consider for an idol competition show 🤝 but i also think its because theres no live audience anyway? so even if youre not singing live, if youre using live ar, its going to sound the same to viewers anyway, so it doesn't hold weight to how the performance is perceived. for that reason people assumed ptg were mostly lip syncing too until a producer was interviewed, since on broadcast its difficult to differentiate. i feel like thats why their performances are so well loved by the other groups on the show, obv the senioritys there too but hearing the singing in person probably elevates the experience for them!

JessReacts764

Agreed! I know that was probably something that groups of Legendary War would appreciate with ATEEZ!
