Painting [ Heartsteel ] Backstage I went back to rendering the old way and I had a lot of fun, I wanted to do it again! I mentioned how League of Legends splash art are a big source of inspiration for me - this time specifically I took inspiration from the Soul Fighter skins and art series.

I love how they incorporated strong black outlines with the painterly colors!

As an artist who invested - and still invests - a lot of time on their lineart, I'm always looking for a good way to give it value instead of painting over it. The style of the Soul Fighter skinline inspired me to keep the strong black outline and even make it thicker to emphasize the perspective!

Not only that, but I also observed how in the Soul Fighter artworks the brush strokes are harder (you can see how the surfaces are not perfectly smooth but rather sculpted by sharp strokes) and tried that! I had fun!

Every time I reference League arts I realize how far I am from my ideal rendering style, but I'm enjoying the learning process so much!! Learning anything only makes me want to learn more!
