I just read on reddit that they didn't even AIR all of the 2vs2 performances. Can you imagine all of that prep as a performer only to get zero airtime?! The HORROR. Lee Hwanhee's performance is one of them.

I recently made a comment on the Discord and it made me realize, how it's so obvious, that this is only the second survival show, I'm fully watching. I'm learning, how a lot of the things I enjoy and find frustrating on Build Up are "normal" and to be expected. Well, duh. Aren't I the seedling in the greenhouse. I still enjoy the show, but I'm preparing myself for a possible final 4, I don't understand. Picking my own 4 has become increasingly difficult, because I'm unsure of the direction of this group. I thought it would be (and wished for) a ballad type vocal group, but they keep picking songs with rap lines and/or genres, that seem chosen more for viewer numbers/entertainment, than showcasing vocal techniques and abilities. I saw someone comment, that the BTOB-performance was vocally strong, but boring to watch, but is that even relevant for the group, they're creating? Who is the target audience for this final group? Who is the show really aiming to appeal to? If endgame is "to create a quartet with a profound and unique voices" then I can see, how the final 4 could be a mix of the four vocal categories. I'm missing more focus on the deliberation process, why some are elminitated, how they're weighing the different parts of what makes a strong group. These challenges about picking the right partner/team, the right song as well as arrangement for it. It has to play a big part. What I've found interesting and challenging, when picking my 4 is considering not only the vocal abilities, but also cohesiveness as well as chemistry, team work, abilities to arrange, (emotional) stage presence....and one thing, that's really messing it all up for me, when voting: who would benefit the most from this chance. We're looking at a 2-year project group. With the risk of getting dragged to hell, does Jay really need this? Jay was clearly born to sing and perform. I have no worries about his career. Hayoon. Soomin. No worries there either. The Jay and Wumuti narratives are strong, and the fan support is intense, so would it even be possible to have a final 4 without at least Jay? Would they dare? If we get a Jay + Wumuti combo in the final 4, will they be able to push themselves outside the rnb/pop box? Donghun is one of my stable picks, but I don't see him making final 4 the way the direction of the show is going. One of the big reasons why he's my pick is because of how skilled he is at infusing his singing with emotions in a way that doesn't feel forced or fake. I connect. I'd consider this an important asset for a vocal group. Gwangseok. Can I envision him in a ballad focused vocal group? Unsure/not really. Do I pray this show will land him opportunities, I can listen to and support in the future. My god, YES. Je Up is checking off all the boxes for me, including the benefitting part. Hwang In Hyuk, I've been following for a couple of years now, and he has a great narrative, they could've utilized more. Bitsaeon. Another one, who's checking off all the boxes, but honestly so many of them do. I hate, how there are too many strong contestants, that aren't getting screen time/a narrative. Especially the more unknown contestants, as they are exactly the ones who need both. I get now (+ from watching the I Land & Boys Planet recaps), it's all part of the game. But then we're back to: who is the target audience and what's the direction for this group? I will say, though. One of the things, that really has stuck with me and I'll take away from Build Up, is some of the narratives from the idol contestants. Several of them have talked about their love for singing and wanting to showcase it more. Several have also talked about feeling like a disappointment or even failure and this being a last chance. I never considered how idol singers could be low on the pole of "respected singers" or how being in a group inherently comes with having to accommodate a vision and direction, you may not agree with or that doesn't fulfill your dreams. Most of these idol singers will never get a solo release and/or career, so they'll have to settle for singing in their apartment and accepting whatever line distribution or (similar) high note killing part, they get. I'm sorry for the long ramble. Consider it the equivalent of RJ pausing 2 minutes into Only Friends and going off on a tangent for 20 minutes until Adam cuts in with a "just play the damn episode". Just watch the damn emotional, frustrating, pre-planned, unfair and confusing survival show.

Incredibly disrespectful, I’m always hurt for the contestants who work so hard for nothing to be aired. Even if they don’t win they come on to show their talent and put themselves out there :(

Have you watched episode 5??? I have so much irrational anger towards Jay & especially Wumuti even though I voted for them with Geonu & Bain every single goddam day😭
