Meet the UGOKS.  

RENE  - Short Story

“Get movin’ you lot!” Captain Rene Rekestas yelled out towards the group of Marines under his command, his voice bearing a powerful bassy tone that resonated deep inside of a person when he spoke, yelled, or anything in between; and yelling was his main form of communication.  Even for an Ugok, Rene was extremely well-built, the Doctors back on Exodus Station liked to joke that Captain Rekestas was one of the only beings they had ever encountered with negative body fat. Hefting a massive M102X Heavy Rifle from Papsikel Heavy Industries in one hand, and an oversized Tommy Gun in the other he stepped over the trench line.  A handful of Galactic United PMC immediately broke at the sight of the impressive Vanguard Marine, turning and running from their positions as Rene gunned them down with a grin on his face as smoke billowed from the embers of his cigar, “Like that you maggots!”  Rifle rounds bounced off of Rene’s armor as he gathered the group of rebels in a charge towards the enemy line. The rebels were ill-trained and not used to fighting, but they wanted to get their homes back and that aligned with the mission of his squad.  On the flank of the Galactic United forces, a massive explosion signaled the arrival of the Crazy 8s; his personal squad of soldiers, all of them Ugoks like him who had trained as part of the Colonial Vanguard most of their lives. It wasn’t that they didn’t want humans on their squad, it was just that their soft fleshy little buddies couldn’t keep up with them.  An armored column began to move in, utterly crushing the GU lines, an armored column that was almost an hour late, “God damnit Ark, it took you long enough.” Rene radioed to his old friend and former trainee, he could still remember when his fellow marine was just a recruit during the Cthulthan Wars of what seemed like almost a century ago.   “I was just making sure you and the 8s got to have your fun. Ready to see what these GU bastards have been hiding under this facility?” Ark was watching from the top of one of the marine howitzers, the gun spelling doom for one of the anti-aircraft emplacements that had prevented a direct assault.  “Just like old times, lad.”
