"Is this anything?"

That's the first question I ask myself after writing a script. Sometimes, the answer is no. Sometimes the answer is "maybe," and so I work a little bit more on the project to get my answer.

The Dolphin King is one of those projects where the answer was "no." I wrote the script on March 16th, 2010. That was right after I finished A Depressed Whale (I must have had aquatic creatures on the mind), and before I started work on President Taft's Secret Pony Brigade.

I like the visual concept of a dolphin sitting on a throne, and I like the king's "prayer" at the end, but outside of that it just wasn't a very interesting or funny script. I ended up using the prayer in a "Month Of" episode years later, and I'll probably put a dolphin on a throne at some point in the future. Good ideas can sometimes sprout from bad ones.

I’m surprised a Dolphin Rex didn’t appear in the underwater Charlie episode, though I have no idea when the relative release of the episode was.

I read the King with Norwell the weasels voice and Gerald with Zoots voice and this just seems like a standard film cow short to me - nothing sub-par about it.

That prayer is like an existential Jack Handey bit. Actually a lot of Jason’s work reminds me of Jack Handey after the accident.

I laughed pretty good at "I foretold myself", and throwing himself into the sea tomorrow is funny. I think it could be made to work.

I always enjoy seeing your "no" ideas. I'm still grateful that you gave Sargnarg a chance. :3 I can't imagine life without Tolls. They were too high.

Wow, the end really gives off the "Life's a fuck, death's a fuck. Thanks!" vibe
