Obi-Wan Kenobi show on Disney+ finally arrived and I had the pleasure of watching first two episodes. I won't go into details of the show, I love the fact that shows like this get made and overall I really like it.

So obviously I wanted to create a fanart, capturing some favorite moment from the show. After watching really carefully, I knew I wanted to make the Daiyu planet. It really surprised me, how cyberpunk-ish this setting was and I love to see new scenery in Star Wars. I'm glad it's not the same Tatooine desert setting over and over.

And I picked the Inquisitor as the central character of the scene. Mostly because I already made low poly Obi-Wan two weeks ago and I really like this character. I know him mostly from the Rebels animated series and I always loved his sinister alien look.

This time, my process was a bit different. I never created a textured semi-realistic diorama with a character. Mostly because characters are really time consuming and I want to keep my process as vanilla as possible for the YT video viewers and for you.

But I felt this scene really deserved the character and I had this addon for Blender in scope for some time. It's called Human Generator and it allows you to quickly create and configure realistic characters in Blender. So before grabbing the references I need, I tried the generator to see how close I can get to this Inquisitor character.

And it surprised me how easy to use it was and how close I was able to reproduce the proportion mostly just by pushing some buttons around. Only thing left was some custom texture painting and clothes modeling. So I went ahead and got some references of the Inquisitor and took a liberty of making him closer to Rebels character.

Daiyu references were a bit harder to come by, so I just watched the show and took some pictures of the screen. These are not part of the Pinterest board for copyright reasons of course.

I sketched some basic block-out of the scene, capturing elements I really like, for example the kiosk, metal warehouse door, neon signs in alien language and bunch of sci-fi nonsense like cables, pipes and devices lying around.

This is not a particular scene from the show. It's a combination of elements that should capture the atmosphere and vibe of this new planet. At the same time, the Inquisitor doesn't really belong there. Yes, you could see him walking through similar setting, but never like this.

And I like to take approach like this. Extracting the essence and combining it in an interesting way to bring that feeling to audience. The Human Generator addon helped a ton to make this on time and I really recommend to grab whatever tools, that might make your work easier.

If you're afraid, that by using addons and libraries, you'll be just using things you don't know how to make, you can make it a regular exercise. Want to use a tree addon? Ok, try to make the tree on your own first and when you succeed, why would you go through the same process every time again? Addon time!
