Inspiration is everywhere! And most of all, it comes unexpected. I have a long list of stores I want to create for the series and it never occurred to me to make a guitar store. This year, I've decided to return to one of my life long passions - guitar playing. After my transition to full time 3D illustrator, I was able to find some time and it immediately started to affect my work as well.

When deciding, what I want to spend my next 5 hours of modeling on, it was so easy to get excited for a dream guitar store and some amps and guitars modeling. Because, let's be honest, even though you might love your work, staying consistent and creating all the time can feel like a chore sometimes. That's why ideas and themes you can't wait to tackle, are absolutely priceless :)

I've searched Pinterest for several guitar and music stores and it quickly became clear, that I need to do a specialized store. No way I can possibly model 10 types of guitars and bass guitars including acoustics, add pianos and drums and make it in time.

So I narrowed my search to find really special places that had a boutique quality and rock 'n' roll vibe to them. My absolute favorite was the one with classic furniture, chesterfield armchair and chandelier. That's the place I'd like to go and sit down to try out a Les Paul!

I've started to sketch the layout starting with windows, sofa and amps, since these would occupy a lot of space. It felt a bit empty, so I've decided to go for a conference table and I really wanted to do a resin and wood combination there. In my mind it's a perfect match for guitars in terms of materials and finish.

In my head, the store was pretty clear with leather chesterfield, wooden hardwood floor and some carpet. But wait! This was supposed to be a stylized store series. I had two options. Forget the series and just finish how I saw it, or being careful about geometry, materials and lighting so it can match the series. I chose the latter and I'm glad since I think it came out pretty great and has a colorful illustration feel.

There are so many things, that can sway your process away from the original thought and it can be both good and bad. Will you focus on the original goal, or are you feeling a bit adventurous? :)
