😆 Dammit Alex! You had one job...

Shimazun

As a fellow writer, it makes me feel quite happy to see I follow a similar design philosophy when designing my characters; one problem I see with A LOT of modern fiction is that they only have three kinds of characters- Designated Plot-Armored Protags (That always Wins in the end), Mandatory Love Interests (that he'll always get), and Background "NPCs" (whose only role in the story is "I exist"). Those are not relatable; for you know that no matter what happens, they'll get their happy ending because the writer said so, and I hate that, for it basically makes every story into a power fantasy. When (or usually before) I write, I have some basic idea of who my protagonist/characters are, what motivates them, what are their virtues/flaws, what are their physical/emotional baggages (I like using that term as well), and how those will change in the course of the narrative. Which not only helps flesh the characters out, but gives you a clear sightline of towards WHAT end you are writing to. On the other hand, a story that starts "He's a dude, he's a badass. Here's a girl, he likes her." and basically go "He'll get the girl, and remain just as badass." are about as emotionally fulfilling as chewing bubble gum... One thing I've always loved of Zummeng's stories is how every character feels like a fully fleshed-out being, rather than a cardboard cut-out with a collection of TvTropes entries printed on it. All her characters feel alive and (this may not be the best word) human in a way you just can't get from any mainstream media. Can never have enough of that :P EDIT: Yipes! That turned into a wall of text.

Thank you

Some new AI improvements are coming in the next decade which will streamline alot of work and make alot of things possible for media. I wouldn't be surprised if in a decade you could just draw character sheets and then run them through an AI that can turn them into 3d models you can then just pose to make comics or animations or video game characters.

Panel 2: Never expected Alexander to be that forgetful. I am assuming a tsunami or hurricanes were not the results of an angry god, but Alexander forgetting to do his job. Panel 3: If Luna needs a motto for her burger stand, I have one for her. "Luna's Burger, Where tastiness is next to godliness."

What I really want to avoid at all costs is characters with plot armor and bend everything in the best way for the protagonist. Just mentioning it boils my blood XD Characters need to deserve things and not just get like a christmas present. Or they have to fall down, to see how they get up. There's satisfaction in these for the reader. I don't want to see the cool kid gets what's his want. That's spoiling and boring. Many people think that a character is good because they succeed in everything. Unfortunately, it tells me a lot about a creator. In a negtive way. (Unless the creator just a beginner) I also agree with the way you think about characters, how you figure them out! Thanks for everything you said! For me, the characters are no less than living people. And making mistakes and overcoming things are also need to form them. As us. I feel making characters isn't just my hobby, or work. They give me satisfaction. That I gave life to something and I can make it believable.

I can't even see that sort of mistake as something from a rookie (unless you're looking at a schoolkid writing a fic about beating up his school's bullies). Usually, that kind of narrative (if you can even call it that) comes from someone who knows EXACTLY what they're doing (point and case, 80% of all the Isekai out there), and they're just creating a bland power fantasy, usually with a protagonist that's a thinly-disguised self-insert. It ain't even a matter of a character being "overpowered"; you CAN have characters who are absurdly strong (I mean, just look at Christopher handling the thieves; he's basically Guts from BERSERK plus scars and teeth) and yet nice and relatable, even using that overpowered-ness as a flaw or burden. It's all a matter of making their journey believable; even a Power Fantasy can be fun to experience (for instance, DOOM 2016), but there has to be a CHALLENGE for the Protagonist to face. When the dude just shows up and says "I'm the Hero!" and the whole world bends over for them... yeah, that's not even a story- that's the stain left behind by a story when it died...

It's not the first time Alex has forgotten to get something for his loved ones around a holiday: https://www.patreon.com/posts/32170707
