I was pretty skeptic with this movie. When I first saw it’s style and theme, I was sure it was for a very young audience. But we watched it anyway, just from curiosity, and because we read good critics about it, and they said this movie isn’t just for the younglings. And I have to say, they were right! :D I honestly enjoyed this movie a lot! The animations were amazing, the story was great, and it was full of stupid jokes and gags, and the characters were very lovable. So I think it was a „serious” movie, because you can clearly see how much work, effort, and creativity the creators put into it. As a cartoon lover, I did not regret watching it, quite the oposite! And I have to say, I was very sad I could not watch it in the cinema…

And why? Because here in Hungary they did not show it in the cinemas… And that is pretty weird, because the hungarian voice acting was top notch! And it’s weird, because every time we go to the cinema, there are always a few posters about 2 or 3 low budget, low-grade animation movies for children, which are only made to „shut the kid up for 1,5 hours”. And you can clearly see how little effort went into it, because kids don’t have standars anyway, or I don’t know… And they rather show these craps in the cinema than Captain Underpants, wich is enjoyable for both youngs and adults…

That’s true for the regular movies too. We were stunned that an amazing movies like „Hunt for the Wilderpeople” only came out on DVD here in Hungary… Man, that movie is awesome!

That IS weird. I remember reading the books as a kid (first book came out in '97). They read like an actual comic book with frames and everything! Unfortunately for me, I only ever got a book for my birthday or christmas and eventually fell out of the series. I think I read the first 4/5 books. Checked the wiki and was surprised to see that the last book came out in 2015! Holy crap, how long did this series get??

Thanks. I'll be sure to check it! Also i went to see Valerian. Which. As you stated. Was extremely stupid. Except that seeing it it clicked for me. It's an "affectionate parody" that is one movie made to play with a poker face all the worst of a given genre taking itself seriously. Basically it's like seeing a compilation of the worst jar jar binks moments of the star wars prequels. A 2 hour long compilation of those. But the cliché are so obvious and blatant, the storyline is so railroaded, the infodump sooooo excessive, that it is obviously a parody of the space opera genre. Basically Valerian is to space operas what "Shoot 'em up" was to action movies. Purposefully done "badly" to dwell in the stupid fun and glory of that specific genre. It takes skill to pull off. Unluckily Besson was not skilled enough to do it also for people which do not like a specific genre. But it's still miles better than the job he did with the fifth element. The fifth element was a badly done parody. This just falls in the uncanny valley. An hair short of being fully successful.
